Nothing academic. I follow lots of disability advocates who use and educate about service animals, and I know some Canadian resources for service animals. I haven't come across any academic work about it. I can try to look for something though!

Photo exhibition for visually impaired launches in Dublin
A unique photography exhibition, 'World Unseen', which has been travelling across the world since 2024, is being hosted by the Photo Museum Ireland in Dublin's Temple Bar.
Visual art media can be made accessible and tactile. The link here describes a photography exhibit that was made for folks with visual impairments, including tactile versions of the photographs with braille descriptions.

Yes, I love this! That's exactly what I tried to do with my DH+Lib data physicalization piece. And the 3D print I posted the other day. Would love to do more of this type of work.

Has anyone studied how researchers and academics use library catalogues? I'm struggling to find any literature on researcher (not student) information needs and information seeking behavior. Any leads?
My focus is rare books/archives/special collections, but I'm looking broadly right now.

I'm so ingrained in #DHMakes that when I saw a museum had a catalogue listing for "the patchwork quilt embossed in moon type" I thought it was a quilt with tactile moon characters added to it. But no, it's a book in moon type. Which makes more sense, but I'm a little disappointed it isn't a quilt!

The title page of volume one of The Gospel of John embossed in moon type.
The same moon title page, but a screenshot of a 3D scan of the page that is blue with scanner guide markers placed randomly on the page.
The same 3D scan but now white with the extra details around the page deleted and cleaned up as a 3D model.
The same title page in moon, but now a 3D printed physical object printed with purple filament. There are printed supports on the front, right side, and base still attached.
From rare book (physical) to 3D scan (digital) to cleaned-up 3D model (digital) to 3D printed object (physical).
This was a really fun process to think through texture and materiality of a tactile book object. This was a test, and I learned a lot from the process. More to come later this year!

People get prickly about these requests bc they see them as individual critiques but they're really efforts to set norms and build culture around sharing information, which feels very meaningful and worthwhile to me in this moment.

I'm curious why they only used those LLMs in their test and not OCR platforms that are already widely in use in academia? Are they just hoping to skip that initial training phase? I have so many thoughts about this...

I know the game sector is on fire now, but any suggestions are appreciated!๐ฅ๐ฐ

There aren't a lot of people working at the intersection of book history and disability studies, so to receive this kind of support is incredible and I'm so grateful for it. SHARP does amazing things, and I'm very happy to be part of this wonderful community of scholars.
