People in the comments saying the play is that if there are no vaccines then chemo makes money and nope! The reason someone you know will die of an vaccine preventable disease is some academics with twitter followings felt they didn't get enough NIH respect in 2020 and came down w/ poster's madness.

This is the problem with having national news covered primarily by people like Haberman and Anderson Cooper who 1.) live in bubbles of extreme privilege and 2.) are not really experts on anything other than the general vibe inside those bubbles.

Israelโs Emerging Occupation Consensus
Despite misgivings about Netanyahuโs Gaza plans, most Israelis support his approach to the Palestinians.
This piece, by @dahliasc.bsky.social, gives a very good and accurate overview of how right wing Israeli public opinion has become over the past decade, and why Netanyahu is not an outlier. These are my takeaways - and differences.

Quote from a story on changes at the U of Chicago that notes they are "pausing" doctoral eduction in Classics, Comp Lit, Germanic studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Romance languages and literatures, and South Asian Studies.
Wow. The University of Chicago, a world-class institution whose humanities faculty in the past has included Homi Bhabha & Lauren Berlant & Ralph Ellison & Hannah freaking Arendt, is getting rid of basically every graduate department involving the acknowledgment that other cultures & languages exist.

What an absolutely pathological thing to say when the humanities subsidize the sciences and all the science funding is getting cut to the bone. Like just look at the vaccine stuff and the cancer research thatโs disappearing. They hate science as much if not more than the humanities

'A matter of life and death'
OneCity Coun. Lucy Maloney described the mayorโs continued interest in bitcoin as a misplaced priority, particularly when many Vancouverites are struggling to make ends meet in what has become an expensive city.
โThe hill I die on is a safer, more affordable, more livable city for every one of our neighbours,โ said Maloney, noting the provincial government has already stated itโs not interested in Simโs bitcoin pursuit.
โWe've got such serious problems that are a matter of life and death for the residents of Vancouver. It would be nice to see him putting this energy into addressing the homelessness crisis, the poison drug epidemic, the people that die on our roads. There are bigger issues that I wish he was putting his passion into.โ
Ken Sim is back on his Bitcoin crusade this weekend, speaking at the Learning Bitcoin conference.
The mayor has called Bitcoin a "hill he'll die on."
The hill @lucymaloney.bsky.social will die on is a safer, more affordable, more livable city for every one of our neighbours.
