That's completely legit. Most of the tenure track jobs become available in the Fall (which is not to say that I haven't been looking at, being interviewed for, or working non-tenure track positions)

I will be talking about the impacts of the threat of anti-trans legislation on trans folks, susceptibility to medical misinformation about gender affirming healthcare, and then showing how we can use issues impacting trans folks as a means by which to understand broader issues

I'm tired. I had hoped to be writing today rather than dealing with this bullshit. But here we are

Berrett suggests in her concurring opinion that transgender individuals have not "suffered a history of de jure discrimination." She is explicitly wrong in this statement (as was noted during court proceedings), and she will continue to be wrong as additional anti-trans laws are passed

They deserve the best care that they can get, including puberty blockers. Trans youth deserve support and kindness, not the cruelty that is clearly present in this ruling

Trans youth deserve to live their lives and not have to suffer through first puberty (a harrowing experience). They deserve to be able to play sports and go to gym class without the risk of constantly being late because they are sent to a separate "but equal" bathroom that is across the school

The arguments that are made are circular bullshit. The existence of transgender youth is apparent in... their existence. They are real, they are youth going through their lives. I have worked with them through my volunteering experiences. I understand a lot of what they deal with

Trans youth benefit from gender affirming healthcare. This ruling will lead to more deaths. Full stop.

I wish I could say that I was surprised by this decision. I listened to the arguments in real time, and there wasn't a single part of me that had hope that any of the conservative judges could be swayed by rational arguments on this highly (and stupidly) politicized issue

I hope that other nations continue to support vital research. I honestly kinda look forward to seeing who decides to fill the gaps

It will take some significant amount of time to fix the damage that has been done.

And that process is going to have to include protections that prevent this kind of thing from happening ever again.

As I watch grant after grant after grant get cancelled, I can't help but think about what this means for the future of research in the United States.

We have seen how quickly the damage can be done. We have seen how an administration can use grants as cudgels to get their way

I am incredibly excited to share my work in a couple months at #APA2025 in Denver, CO.

In this talk, I will be demonstrating how understanding issues that face minoritized populations (such as trans folks) can help us better understand issues that face the individuals broadly

Exactly! At some point, it becomes an attempt to legitimize misinformation. I don't need to engage in an adversarial collaboration to know that vaccines don't cause autism. There is a wealth of data on that very topic!

Not only does this place them in a shit position for engaging in earnest collaboration, it puts me in the position of being seen as violating the trust of the trans community.

"Do more adversarial collaborations" feels good, but things are so much more complicated than that

I think it's really important to consider context when suggesting that science should engage in more "adversarial collaboration." If the topic is trans lives and trans health, my "adversaries" often seem to believe that trans individuals are trans because of social contagion or mental illness

And suddenly the pseudoscientific bullshit makes even more sense
