did not expect the site of Thomas Beckett’s murder to be memorialized in a fashion that is quite so fucking metal

The article notes the β€œArtist” has only 35k followers on Instagram, but millions of streams on Spotify, and has not taken over any of the actual song charts beyond β€œdigital sales.” I can’t prove this is a faked campaign to push AI music, but those would be exactly the circumstances I’d expect.

So looking at the actual SF chronicle article, the only place this song is accruing notice is on Spotify, which is easily gamed by bots. If I were an AI proponent who desperately needed to boost the validity of my investment, this is exactly what I’d do.

A very nice last outing though

jokes aside, can you imagine how you would handle it if you asked a human assistant "did you make all this up instead of actually doing any of the work", and that person responded to you with "good catch"

The political/media class really doesn't want to talk about this.

I think there's an interesting delta between the two (not that 2 is great representation, but it's markedly changed from the first)

BBC news website headline that reads
"Paedophile singer Ian Watkins dies after prison attack"
The word paedophile replaced the word lostprophets that the headline was originally published with.

I grumble about a lot of BBC news editorial decisions. However the change from lostprophets to paedophile as the start to this is exactly the right

UK government admits almost no evidence nature protections block development Whitehall analysis provides no data or research to support the government argument that environmental legislation holds up building

The analysis by Whitehall officials provides no data or research to back up the government’s central argument that it is environmental legislation that holds up building.

"It’s worth remembering that governments are not their people."
Sure Omid, but in this case you were being booked, paid for, and having your performance rules dictated by the government, and in fact performing on their behalf.

If I were an optimist I'd hope it was an end to the race to the bottom and campaigning purely on "we're not x", but sadly...

Starmer's trying to frame it that pro Palestine is anti jewish. It's so facile. I don't want jewish people to die. I don't want Palestinians to die. I do want our government to stop giving succour to an obviously radical theocratic government committing genocide.

The thing about Thunberg is that you don’t have to like her or think she’s doing anything β€˜meaningful’, any publicity to a cause is good and she holds a mirror or to world leaders being cunts and it may seem hollow but it’s not really

And the king has to authorise the government's existence.

It wasn't the noisiest place but gave them a go. I could hear everyone else at the table fine and they definitely cut down on the people behind me talking as well as the background music. Only thing I wasn't sure about, they made my voice sound quite boomy to me, but my other half said I was quiet.

NB, for the technicality, the delegated control of the armed forces is not to parliament, but to the defence council, less than half of which is made up of ministers.

Nobody gives a fuck about America, you always thought you were more important than you were and you're now a dying country under a fascist regime.

If I had more tin foil in my wardrobe it would be enough to make me highly suspicious of the government's current behaviours.

The extremely bad faith argument that people shouldn't protest a genocide because of a horrific terrorist attack on a synagogue is so deeply offensive to me. It pitches the protestors against Jewish people which is not in any way true.

Violence is universally bad, even if you consider it justified you should still acknowledge that it is bad, and it is vanishingly rare that anything other than in the moment self defence is justified.

I've only taken them for a few test runs, but tried in a full Lowry pre show and could still talk to my friend with ease and definitely dampened the hubbub.
I'm going out for lunch today to a busy place, so taking them to try in that setting

Police to get new powers to crack down on repeated protests, says Home Office Move follows arrest of almost 500 people at latest pro-Palestinian demonstration in London on Saturday

The Home Office sham "consultation" on cumulative protests closed on 29 September, so this immediate announcement shows Labour had already decided – yet again – to expand public order powers, well before the Manchester attack that is now used to justify it
