Yeah I'd like to give it some leeway in somuch that it's an older book and the author wanted ways to make earth seem more and more alien to the protag', but it's uh... It's somethin

11.08.2025 21:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Still a great book to be clear! But there were parts that felt like they were tailor made for modern RW ideology
11.08.2025 21:15 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Read Forever War recently and it was fun, but it's hard to not view it as thru a strange right wing fantasy re: the UN mandating "homo life" etc
I think it's still an effective way to portray how the world keeps moving farther and farther from "normal" for the protag', but my eyebrows were raised

08.08.2025 03:10 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0To be clear, I did say "residents of Hampstead", which is an affluent neighborhood in general compared to the surrounding boroughs - something I consider to be a more relevant determining factor in this case rather than just heritage.
07.08.2025 16:26 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0My experience does come from interacting with affluent members of the community, who often lean conservative, and from simply driving thru Hampstead and observing the lawn signs I see.
I do not have a ton of faith in the information ecosystems that a lot of the residents find themselves in.
I apologize for the broad generalization. To be clear, my wife is Jewish, my extended family is Jewish, all of whom are not lockstep Zionist etc and I know that many Jewish people - even in Israel - are standing up for what is right here

Have you petitioned the residents of Hampstead over how they feel about his comments?
My experience with Hampstead leads me to believe they are happy about it

02.08.2025 17:42 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Sure but there're plenty of games that portray situations that people would never actually want to be in
Very few people want to be in the trenches of WW1 or chased thru the hallways of a space station by a Xenomorph, but there are markets for those

Much like violent videogames don't expose you to actual risks or pain while still being thrilling, farming games give you the satisfaction of gardening without any of the downsides like backbreaking labor, poverty etc

I'm trying to think of what I'd tell a younger guy... aside from the above I'd definitely tell them stuff like always be clean, have fresh clothes, compliment the girls on their stylistic choices etc...
Yeah the usual advice would be "be open, be caring, be yourself and it will happen" which is true but not really the solution to what *young* men are facing: the fact that their peers can seemingly go out and find sexual partners immediately, in the short term, and they can't
01.08.2025 15:48 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Unfortunately I think those conversations are often happening within already-leftist spaces, and less visible on the "surface" of public discourse & mass media
