When we wanted to take home leftovers from a meal at a restaurant, we used to call them "doggie bags," as if we'd take the food home to our pets.

Once had dinner at husband's friends' home. They had food ordered in. We happened to see inside their fridge. It was like empty! No leftovers. They were thrown out.
