it ended up being a pretty lengthy paper, but the results are really broadly generalizable
we apply our results specifically to the formation of binary black holes within AGN disks, which has been a hot topic of late! sec. 6 (especially 6.1.3!) has comparisons to & synthesis of a lot of recent work
