Anchiornis, a small blackish, greyish and brownish-red bird-like dinosaur, perches on a twig singing a happy tune. But not a Christmas tune, because the holidays don't start until next week.

Spent #FossilFriday tweaking my Anchiornis colour reconstruction. The black+white+red intepretation does entirely match the melanosome data recorded for this species, as there's evidence of phaeomelanin (= rufous hues) on the arm, and lots of grey across the body. #paleoart #sciart #paleontology

A digital portrait of Pteranodon - a prehistoric flying reptile, with a distinctive long curved beak and head crest. It is mostly a dark grey/black colour, with yellow flashes on its throat and crest, and a piercing amber eye.
It is shown semi-submerged in the spray of a breaking wave, with a stream of water arcing from the tip of its beak.

A Pteranodon longiceps just messing around in the water. This sub-adult’s crest is not yet as large or as brightly coloured as those of more mature individuals.

a Nanotyrannus lethaeus rolls around in a shallow pool of water, foliage can be seen in the background

Nanotyrannus is a species of dinosaur once thought to be a juvenile Tyrannosaurus rex, however, it recently was concretely proven to be distinct from Tyrannosaurus, as well as being quite far removed from it on the tyrannosaur tree being a member that diverged much earlier.

Nanotyrannus lethaeus is a species that can be differentiated from Nanotyrannus lancensis in a variety of ways, however, in this piece the most notable way is its more slender skull as oppose to the more boxy skull of N. lancensis

a female Pteranodon flies above the sea, repositioning a belemnite in its jaws. the panicked belemnite squirts a jet of ink in an attempt to escape. it has a pathology on its back that shows it's escaped predation in the past, but this attempt will be futile

Pteranodon is a large sea-faring pterosaur known for its long crest and long peak, it is the most well known behind Pterodactylus. there is a massive debate about which specimens actually belong to the genus, however, it is accepted that the smaller crested mature specimens most likely represent females

belemnites are a group of extinct cephalopods with hard internal guards that helped in buoyancy and structure of the body, they're homologous structures to the pens of squid

a Phosphorosaurus investigates an underwater camera at night in very cloudy water. the light of the camera illuminates a cloud of particles in between it and the small mosasaur, obscuring its body sans the lighter colouration on its face, neck, flippers, and belly. its eye reflects the light back into the camera

Phosphorosaurus is a halisaurine mosasaur (small slender marine reptiles that looked vaguely like reptilian seals). Phosphorosaurus had particularly large orbits and forward facing eyes, leading many to speculate that it was nocturnal

from above the surface of the water at night, a camera illuminates a school of aulacoceridan belemnoids swim away from a juvenile Helicoprion. the juvenile has caught caught one, using its buzzsaw-like whorl of teeth to slice through the cephalopod's guard, the cephalopod squirts a jet of ink in a futile attempt to escape, however, it's already too late for it

Helicoprion is a cartelagionous fish that is often mistaken for a shark, but is actually closer related to chimaeras. it's most well known for its whorl of teeth that puzzled Palaeontologists for decades, we now understand that the whorl sat on the lower jaw and was used in a saw-like motion to cut cephalopod prey against the teeth on its palatoquadrate (upper jaw)
