The "purity culture" bit of it was particularly cringe, but what bothers me most about Cory Doctorow's post is that he imagined the reader as someone having a series of particular opinions then proceeded to antagonize the reader. Not a professional writer but I'm pretty sure that's a bad idea.

Police spokespersons should always take the account of officers who used force as unreliable unless they have confirmed it. The officers' account should never be the official account on day 1. Again and again officers lie in these situations...

Though today through technology and creativity both the response members and the dispatch of rapid response groups are more decentralized. I believe Minneapolis picked up RRTs from Chi, not saying they're direct inspired by flying pickets but there could be some lineage. Organizing has long memory.

This must have been during the 1934 #Minneapolis #Teamsters #strike. The Teamsters used "flying pickets" that were dispatched to dispersed locations, to stop unauthorize anywhere in the city. Tactic strongly resembles today's #ICE rapid response groups.

And if it feels like someone is criticizing you, choose to insert "yes, and" before their words, maybe it will change your perspective. Choose to be generous and assume best intentions on microblogs. But also, Bluesky you really need to up the character limit.

If someone shares an idea and you feel there's a citation missing (but it's not straight up plagiarism) share "yes and I read it out really well here too". If you have an important counterpoint, how about "yes, and I have read some good 1500 char limit posts, 500 is still short".
