Im Austausch mit niedergelassenen Γrzt:innen wurde wieder klar:
π¬ Was treibt uns an? Leiden lindern, besser behandeln.
𧩠Was fehlt?

What an amazing anniversary!
Phosphaphenalenes β a success story and such a big part of my academic training.
Itβs hard to believe it's been 8 years working together, @cromeronieto.bsky.social β since 2017!
Excited to see what comes next.
It was like a dream...I started alone in Heidelberg. Soon we made the impossible: develop a new type of molecule!Today at the @uclm.es, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of our first publication on phosphaphenalenes and with a dreamed group of scientists! I feel so grateful ππ

Maybe itβs time we make space not the exception, but the foundation.
Not less science β just smarter, more human science.
#ScienceCulture #AcademicLife #MicroSabbaticals #MentalHealthInResearch #LettingGo
6/
Not a luxury β a necessity.
Because operational output without strategic perspective doesnβt take us far.
It wastes time, money β and most of all, people.
5/
So: what if we built that kind of space into the system?
Micro-sabbaticals.
One full day every month. No meetings. No deadlines. No emails.
Just time to think.
4/
That partial distance made all the difference.
Enough silence to hear your own thoughts again.
But flying halfway across the globe every time we need perspective? Not exactly scalable.
3/
But clarity doesnβt come from doing more.
It comes from distance.
For me, it took a trip to the other side of the world. Still working, but in the quiet hours β when no one messaged β thinking returned. Strategy returned.
2/
Stepping away is hard β not just physically, but mentally.
Work follows us everywhere: in our thoughts, on our phones, across time zones.
Even βbreaksβ arenβt really breaks.
Two women walk along a wide black sand beach in Raglan, New Zealand. It is a crisp winter day with clear skies. The beach is empty, the ocean calm and the atmosphere quiet and spacious β a moment of reflection and distance.
1/
Science is relentless.
Exciting. Important. Exhausting.
Deadlines, grants, papers β the treadmill never stops.
We call it progress, but often it feels like just spinning wheels.
What we rarely talk about: the cost of never stepping back.

4/ I left Hong Kong inspired by the science, the people, and the energy in the room.
If we didnβt get a chance to connect but youβre curious about Cancer Cores, feel free to reach out β always happy to chat.

3/ Immensely grateful to Joachim Herz Stiftung and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung for making this trip possible. π
Their support opened the door to conversations and connections Iβll be carrying forward.
2/ These meetings always remind me how small the science world really is.
I randomly ran into Carina β we studied together years ago, and suddenly there we were, catching up on the other side of the globe. β¨
1/ π𧬠Just back from Hong Kong and still buzzing from #ISSCR2025.
I had the chance to present our latest on Cancer Cores β assembloids where tumors are fully surrounded by healthy neural tissue. Great conversations and thoughtful feedback at the poster session. π§ π§ͺ
