08.10.2025 20:05 โ ๐ 3763 ๐ 1031 ๐ฌ 53 ๐ 46I guess then people say or imply things with the plays they choose to make? Or maybe thatโs just a continuation of doing things.
But I do think this is a bit semantics - do you get my intent here even if my words arenโt exact?
(I also think just a few years ago I wrote off plays as not saying anything, when what some of them were actually saying was โhere is how to care for each other in the messiest of interpersonal circumstancesโ
and that can be a valuable lesson at anytime!)
Is this a thing people would like?
05.10.2025 01:05 โ ๐ 714 ๐ 114 ๐ฌ 10 ๐ 4Brecht wouldnโt be happy with me, but thatโs fine. Being a full human being means living in paradox.
05.10.2025 02:07 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0but right now I need this play as much as I need the plays about climate change, about organizing and labor, about war and genocide, about complicity and complacency.
I need both.
and look, candidly, Iโm biased! Iโm working on a fun play right now that takes place in a fantasy world where trans people can search for love and the audience knows everything will end up okay
05.10.2025 02:07 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I am very suspicious of theatres and producing orgs that Only put forward plays that ignore the problems of our time!
but Iโm not convinced producing or writing one fun play is equivalent to ignoring our worldโs problems

01.10.2025 13:24 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I also have advice. Everybody loves reading advice on the computer, so I'll share it: the best thing you can do right now is log off as hard as you can. Go outside, talk to people in real life where it's actually kind of rude to talk about the news, try to actually see the friends you usually just text message. Go for a long drive and turn the phone off while you do it. Get back into your hobbies or pick one and learn it for a while. Watch one of those studio movies that reviews called "wildly miscalculated" and you haven't seen since high school. Play an album you like but find embarrassing. Go to free community events even if they sound stupid. If you take the freeway, try the surface streets. Go to a bad diner and just order some bad coffee because even bad coffee is good coffee. You can't help anybody when you're exhausted and keep posting one million college-educated rewordings of "I would love to be dead right now" on the computer. Walk away from the thing and try out some of those normal things you hear about and if you get bored that's wonderful because we're not supposed to get bored anymore. It turns out boredom is the Cadillac of feelings.

You might think it should be a non-controversial belief among Democrats that "DC should be able to self-govern.
But 31 House Democrats just voted to give Trump and Congressional Republicans full control over DC's sentencing laws.
Shameful, heinous behavior from Vichy Democrats
anyways I understand this is still an important conversation irt cis women, absolutely, and also I'm tired about "gender parity" as a concept when we aren't also having in depth convos about the amount of trans playwrights who exist vs how many are getting produced

MATTIE: I also don't like how it really doesn't work very well, and is often raining enormous pieces of itself onto people. FRIEND: Sure.
