Police Unmask Millions of Surveillance Targets Because of Flock Redaction Error
Flock is going after a website called HaveIBeenFlocked.com that has collated public records files released by police.
New from 404 Media: police have unwittingly unmasked millions of their surveillance targets because of a Flock redaction error. Police didn't redact specific license plates in public record releases. A site is now making that information searchable, 2.3 million plates www.404media.co/police-unmas...

Police respond to shooting at Brown University in Rhode Island. Multiple victims reported
Authorities say police have responded to an active shooting at Brown University near an engineering building on the campus in Providence, Rhode Island.
Reports of active shooter at Brown University.
HOWEVER, news is VERY unreliable rn. Officials mistakenly announced a shooter was in custody. It was wrong; but, that was the headline on TV news stations across the country and CNN too.
Stay skeptical for a while, including about casualties.

Good thread on the need to separate corporate myths and fictional stories about AI in education from the messy and often problematic realities of how AI actually works in classrooms. We need clarity on claims vs. cost and labor, who benefits, and who gets to decide.

Columbia Agrees to $200 Million Fine to Settle Fight With Trump
You can never bend the knee enough to appease an authoritarian bully.
This is a devastating blow to academic freedom & freedom of speech at Columbia.
Never in the history of this nation has there been an administration so intent on the utter destruction of higher education as we know it.

Not surprising of course. So much to unpack here. But I am not at all convinced that teachers are 'in the driver's seat', as posted by OpenAI, especially AI-critical folks who will feel additional external pressure to use corporate AI tools for accelerated or 'optimized' course design.

Trump announced its AI Action plan for American AI dominance. What we really need is a People's AI Action plan to ensure Trump + Silicon Valley don't weaponize AI against working people, exacerbate the climate crisis and fortify the surveillance state.

Iโve noticed an uptick in dismissals of the concerns of teachers about AI. Some say that itโs *their* job to find a way to evaluate work that AI canโt replicate. I would just ask that you talk to real teachers and really listen. Iโd also suggest reading a bit about writing and the brain.
