10.05.2025 14:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Starting to feel like thereβs only two options for next semester re AI:
- Absolute zero tolerance, let the students get furious, let admin be swamped under complaints
- Give up completely, pass βem all if thatβs what my institution wants, find the few who care, & save my time
Seriously considering not offering written feedback anymore. Iβm not conversing with a robot 40% of the time. And Iβm *this* close to doing what he does in this article. βYou wanna pay for a B and do absolutely nothing? Fine. You got it. Leave. Iβm not spending a whole semester negotiating with AI.β
06.05.2025 14:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I know I obsessively read everything about AI, but *this* article is exactly right about everything. www.insidehighered.com/opinion/view...
06.05.2025 14:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I have been very anti-βitβs important to teach students email etiquetteβ respectability.
Buuuuuuut the students are now fully treating email like text messaging (they even say βIβll text youβ to me) and rapid-fire message me multiple times in a row. Nopeeee nope nope.
Ted Chiangβs AI piece is excellent, but Iβve been thinking a lot about his speculative op-ed and the idea that AI is supposed to βdemocratize education.β
Students at elite institutions can afford to take time to learn & avoid AI.

The people who say, βWell, AIβs not going awayβ¦β in meetings like theyβre sharing something I donβt lie in bed grinding my teeth over make me so so mad.
29.04.2025 20:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Are you referencing TX SB 37? π
Is it fully passed? (Or does it need further approval in the House or something?)
Iβm realllllly trying to not feel salty, so as an academic in TX who has already been living with anti-DEI terror for a yearβ¦ uh, welcome, yβall!
Just FYI: you may want to read about our Senate Bill 37. Cause theyβre coming for Faculty Senates and ethnic studies.
I know academia has been fucked for a long time, but AI, student deportations, and anti-DEI all hitting at once is truly too much. (Iβm having trouble being around people who arenβt horrified every second.)
