I am taking particular pleasure in the complete collapse of trans-as-unbeatable-wedge-issue narrative this morning. It might be an 80-20 issue in voters minds, but it has to be on voters minds to matter. The results in VA demonstrate that it is very much not on voters minds.

iโ€™d also say that the GOPโ€™s obsession with this gives candidates an opportunity to articulate and stand up for their values. โ€œi refuse to make anyone feel like they donโ€™t belong in my [state/city/community]. and i want everyone to live the best life they can achieve [insert policy slogan]โ€

Voting in off year municipal elections is a good learning experience for the politically obsessed for what voting is like for regular people.

You donโ€™t know who any of the candidates are or what theyโ€™ll do. But youโ€™re there voting anyway because youโ€™re angry/bored/remembered you had to do it.

They also want any crazy or offensive thing *Dems* say to be a horrifying violence-inspiring threat. Can't have both. (2/2)

Consistently impressive how DC journalists manage to figure out how the cycle's conventional wisdom was just republican propaganda, the day AFTER the the election.

BDS activists and the French labor union tried to stop the Israel Philharmonic from playing in Paris. They failed.

Paris heard a symphony of coexistence, with Jews, Arabs, and Druze united.

The Israel Philharmonic didnโ€™t just perform, it prevailed. You canโ€™t silence us.

Leftists are already laying the ground work to turn on Mamdani and begin eating him alive the moment heโ€™s sworn in as Mayor? How surprising.

The next 12 months are going to be hilarious.

Maybe letโ€™s let him actually become mayor, before declaring that heโ€™s Progressive Jesus or a secret Janus.

The President of the United States is refusing to follow a court order telling him to follow the law.

Whelp, time to hold the President in contempt.

I'm increasingly getting even more Disturbed that our party is put in a terrible position and forced to vote for DSA candidates because the other candidates are just as bad. It's way past time that this is addressed, it's not fair to the party leaders either.
Do they want to lose more voters?

04.11.2025 08:33 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 14    ๐Ÿ” 3    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 5    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

DSA should not be allowed to run as Democrats. Full stop โœ‹๏ธ
That was what ruined the GOP, allowing Tea Party nuts to run as Republicans. They were never actually Conservatives. They were/are populist bigots. DSA are the same with their Palestine Purity Pledge - antisemitism baked in.

We had really just overcome the trauma of the cold war and were in a mostly happy place.

The towers were visible basically everywhere in Manhattan. The psychic damage of their absence and the smell and living in a militarized zone with tanks and F-16s flying over for a week was immense.

04.11.2025 16:40 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 25    ๐Ÿ” 4    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 1

I donโ€™t disagree. I tend to think that everyone over 30 underestimates how much โ€œAmericans deserved to dieโ€ is the prevailing thought among left-aligned people under 30, which is why they donโ€™t distinguish between the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan (justified) and the invasion of Iraq (not justified)

04.11.2025 16:20 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 7    ๐Ÿ” 3    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

as in "we were just dying to fight a way with Islam" is something I see claimed pretty often, the premise being that 9/11 was an excuse for a preexisting desire for war

this *may* have been the case for *Bush and Cheney specifically* but it was not the case for most people

04.11.2025 16:14 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 63    ๐Ÿ” 3    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 8    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I do not know how to express this next point in a microblog post, but I also think that a lot of people looking back on 9/11 who weren't there attribute *higher* levels of awareness to the US population about the Middle East prior to the event than actually existed.

04.11.2025 16:13 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 59    ๐Ÿ” 2    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

but yeah, if you weren't there, we were scared that it might happen again, and that wasn't irrational. nothing like that had ever happened before, or has happened since. it was not just worse than other things you might think of, it was weirder. we had no way to know what would happen next.

04.11.2025 16:08 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 83    ๐Ÿ” 3    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 7    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

it *annoys* me when left-aligned folks act like 9/11 was imaginary and 3000 people weren't actually murdered, in the US, for going about their ordinary days, by religious zealots

but Bush and Cheney did ultimately create that situation by building a web of lies around that actual atrocity

The people demand soap operas. The Iliad? Soap opera. Romance of the Three Kingdoms? Soap opera. Comics? Soap operas. Pro wrestling? Soap operas. CRPGs? Soap operas. Longing for soap operas is part of the universal human experience.
