I will present my work with @hannoseebens.bsky.social and @mormoops.bsky.social on forecasting spread of non-native invasive species at this years @guardias.bsky.social online conference from 13th to 14th of November.

Postdoc depression and anxiety rates are rising, finds survey of 872 researchers The Max Planck Society is good at attracting international postdocs but struggles to retain them, survey finds.

Too bad the article is behind a pay all, but the title says a lot. We don’t talk enough about mental health challenges in academia and most institutions don’t seem to have resources in places to support students and postdocs going through difficult times

New publication! We mapped the global genetic diversity of marine forests of brown macroalgae. Using genetic data, machine learning & past climate projections (LGM, ~20k yrs ago), we identify hotspots of diversity that shape resilience & conservation priorities. 🌍 🌊

Hope, joy, absurdity and marvel: there is so much more to our world story than loss Amid environmental tragedy, a hidden world of curiosity and wonder still exists. And in this, says Natalie Kyriacou, we can find glimmers of hope

Amid the biodiversity crisis, stories of resilience and recovery offer hope. From monarch butterflies migrating to the reintroduction of species such as the Arabian oryx, nature's recovery inspires. 🦋 #ConservationOptimism 🌏🧪

Raising concerns on the dangers of linking biological invasions to human migration A recent paper by Ahmed et al. (2025. “Parallels and Discrepancies between non-native Species Introductions and Human Migration.” Biological Reviews 100 (3): 1365–1395), published in Biological Rev...

„[…] human migration as biological invasions inherently constructs migrants as potential threats […] and conceptualises migration as a passive process where humans have no agency or free will.“

Registered for @biogeography.bsky.social conference 2026 and will give a talk about our (@mormoops.bsky.social & @hannoseebens.bsky.social) new model approach to forecast invasive species spread based on traffic gravity model and landscape resistance maps derived from open data. 🥳
