Someone made a really good point about the take “there’s no ethical billionaires” and Taylor. She’s not a Jeff Bezos, but she exploits fans for every penny they’re worth and through their emotions. She cultivates a parasocial relationship with fans where any criticism is shut down. It’s sad.

I read a theory that every song corresponds to one of her 12 eras and yes I agree

And yes, she’s been writing about her happily ever after for a long time, but more recently said no deal that 1950s shit they want from me. So to backtrack is just sad.

So yeah, the songs sucks. I want us all to think critically of her impact instead of blindly defending her. Cancelled also sucks but that’s for a different thread. I love the rest of the album, and that’s okay!

She’s deriding all the forms of success she already has. Taylor has financial independence and has the ability to leave a man on a dime if she wants, as well as access to childcare and support. What all of us deserve, but is not a reality for most people because we are not in her financial position.

Taylor, weren’t you just calling yourself a childless cat lady? Like bffr.

It’s also frustrating because Taylor has a mega successful career and does have all the material things money can buy. She has the awards. She has the Grammys. So for Wi$h Li$t to kind of shit on people who want that life, even going so far to make fun of couples with dogs?

Marriage is seen as a “choice.” We forgot that forty years ago, it wasn’t a choice, but a necessity. Ya’ll will so loudly argue for women’s right to live like it’s the 1950s instead of recognizing that the mindset doesn’t exist in a vacuum and the US is shifting rapidly into fascism.

At a time when our reproductive rights are under attack and conservatives wants us to stop working and stay at home barefoot and pregnant, what the fuck is the point of glamorizing a song to millions of young girls about getting married and having a bunch of babies?

No one is begrudging people who want to have a family and spouse. But what is the point of loudly saying you want to conform to the patriarchy?

Choice feminism is the belief that the individual choices of a woman are inherently feminist. In reality, choice feminism is not about a woman’s right to choose, it’s about her right to perpetuate patriarchy and live under the social order that prioritizes the comfort of men.
