“All the ghost stories were wrong; haunting were so rarely malicious. The dead only wanted to feel included.”

YES!! At least that’s how my haunting felt🤷🏻‍♀️

Hey friends!
This time of year is rough financially on everyone so please do not feel an ounce of guilt if you see this and cannot help.

I just like to highlight areas that can use a little financial love this time of year if you'd prefer to skip getting your homophobic uncle a present. 🎄

Other than reading I crochet, play videos games & play dungeons and dragons!! I like to make bookish crochet items when I’m not working on gifts for people, which I post about here & there

If her actions lead to the death of her professor, what does she expect will happen if she brings him back from hell? I don’t know if I’d write the student that killed me a letter of recommendation

Love Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood Listened to audiobook 5/5

Elsie is scraping by as an adjunct professor teaching as many classes as she can for the income. It’s not enough though, so as a side hustle she fake dates men: men hire her to be their date to work & family functions. When a chance at her dream job arises she jumps at the chance. However, standing between her & the job is Jack, the older brother of one of the men she fake dates. He happens to work at the university & is also on the interview committee. How will this impact her chances or getting the job? Will her lies catch up to her?

As a recovering people pleaser this book hit close to home for me. I was able to relate to Elsie many many many times over. It was almost therapeutic in a way going along with Elsie’s journey of being herself. It’s a topic I haven’t seen touched on very much so I was immediately hooked.

The romance? Fantastic!! I even noticed some instances between Jack & Elsie that resonated with me & my own husband trying to figure out the truth of what I want. To be loved is to be seen & you can tell how much Jack sees her despite her flaws.

Navy, pink & white blob kindle background. Top left sticker is a line of blue book spines with a cat riding a bike in a scarf next to it. Underneath is a cat in a cupcake wrapper with a Christmas tree frosting on its head. Two soot sprites from spirited away each holding a little star. Underneath that is a sticker that says “just one more chapter” & lastly Pochacco with a little mouse friend

Grim & Oro by Alex Aster Read on Kindle 3/5 stars

Dueling crowns is two novellas told from the respective perspectives of Grim & Oro. Both novellas dive into a bit of background into their childhoods then recounting the events of LightLark & Nightbane.

Because most of the plot was just rehashing previous books from their own perspective, there’s not much to say really on the majority of the book. I was actually enjoying the beginning of each novella until Isla came into play. I didn’t feel reading about their same exact scenes from previous books just in a new perspective added anything new or interesting & found myself bored.

The beginning chapters detailing their childhood actually held my attention learning new information & I wished we got more of that. There were certain scenes especially related to the night the curses were spun where it was just glossed over. But the curses are the main part why everything turned out the way it did.

Objectively, Oro got the better novella out of the two. We spend more time in his childhood & going through events we heard mentioned but never went into detail with before. I also felt his chapters with Isla did add a little more to the story we’ve read before. We maybe spend 10% of Grims novella in his past then the rest is just him thirsting over Isla.

I feel like this gets mentioned in every Lightlark series book I review & this one is no different. This series is marketed as ya & a lot of the spicy scenes are just that. Spicy. The scenes themselves are fine but it makes me uncomfortable reading those scenes knowing the series is marketed as ya.

I started with Oro then went to Grim as recommended by the author. I don’t think it changes much what order you read it in. Oro is more Lightlark while Grim is Nightbane, however I was so bored with Grims by the end I just wanted it over. And I say all this as a Grim girly. Do what you will with that information.
