i'm gonna quote the previous game's thread in these mini-reviews so that someone interested can just go through the quoted posts to see them all

enjoyed my time with it overall, though i'm also glad i'm done with it... some of those later stages are a real slog to get through. onto the next game!

all of it interacts together to make some chaotic fun setpieces. movement/camera can really get in the way, but it's a fun game nonetheless and i can see why this turned into a larger franchise

the positives are also plenty though! learning the levels is actually pretty fun, and the soundtrack really elevates the experience. the enemy AI is cool and does stuff like kick back grenades at you. when you shoot them while they're holding a grenade, it will explode under them after they die

the game ramps up the difficulty real quick around the 5th mission and by the 6th one you are dealing with insta-kill rocket launcher dudes coming around the corner and shooting you with half a second to react, turning the stages into a bit of trial and error

levels start to drag on for far too long and there are zero checkpoints, so you can be going through a 20 minute mission in an underground bunker shooting people left and right only to get caught out by a stray grenade near the very end and have to do it all over again... not a fan of that

visually, the game looks pretty good for ps1. the limited draw distance hinders it a little bit, especially in sections where you *know* there's an enemy up ahead you gotta kill but the game doesn't render far enough and then you get blown up by a bazooka from the fog. this is fairly rare, though

so first off, the controls are dreadful! it's to be expected of a first person shooter from an era before console FPS controls were standardized, i suppose. but janky controls aren't necessarily a bad thing; adjusting to an unorthodox control scheme is its own fun challenge, in a way

GAME 2/100: Medal of Honor
this isn't really my type of shooty game but i put it on my list because it's a piece of history that spawned a big, influential franchise. and i'm glad i did! it's very janky, but there is also a lot to love here
