Trump has deported 200,000 immigrants in his first six months in office. At current rates, he will deport 1.6 million immigrants in his term.

Even considering the rather large ICE budget increase, it's unlikely Trump can finish the project of deporting illegal immigrants.

One thing I love about having made the switch to a Leaf - no oil in an electric. I had to watch my old car’s levels all the time, sometimes it would burn oil.

We already went through the "affirmative action cheating" cycle with Elizabeth Warren.

She still got elected in her safely Democratic constituency, but by a notably smaller margin, and head-to-head polls suggested that she would manage to lose the popular vote to Donald Trump nationally.

I know Red Team & Blue Team are both focused on KBJ’s fiery dissent, but it’s a dissent that neither Kagan nor Sotomayor were willing to endorse.

Sotomayor’s opinion is the one endorsed by all three liberal justices.

Bob Menendez was much further along the “this guy will get convicted of something” track before getting thrown under the bus.

Senators can and have gotten away with a lot, this was a conjunction of peak national “MeToo” energy, optics, and Minnesota being considered “safe enough” politically.

It was eight, with the first two failing the sniff test, none coming forward independently, and nothing that could (or did) support a successful lawsuit or criminal charges.

Mostly came down to “there was a bad-looking photo” and “enough D senators decided to ditch him.”

Neither Kagan nor Sotomayor cosigned KBJ's additional dissent, though all three liberal justices agreed with the narrower and stronger argument in Sotomayor's dissent.

Law does need to be considered abstractly to be consistent, and it must be consistent in order to be sustainable in the long term.

This article is unpopular to the point of ragebait in the blue bubble here on BlueSky.

But it's correct. Allowing any one of hundreds of federal judges to issue a decision immediately binding on the entire nation was unsustainable.

I think that is an unwarranted level of panic.

The constitutional order has been threatened and is not in its healthiest state, but it is by no means dead.

SCOTUS put a 30-day stay on the order for now. I think they will probably stay it for longer if necessary. If they wait longer before deciding against the administration (as everyone seems to think likely), then it will almost certainly be retroactive (but be a bit of an administrative headache).

I will be very surprised if SCOTUS actually rules against birthright citizenship.

They just slapped down district courts issuing national injunctions. They haven’t ruled on the merits yet.

If you believe there is an organized protection racket perpetrated by men against women, then you are both hateful and in the grips of paranoid delusion.

Get help.

Dworkin was just full of hate. There’s no irony there, just deep failure to appreciate base rates.

Men are the biggest extant danger to women because men have proven very effective at eliminating other dangers to women.

Being a human woman in a first world society is one of the safest existences.

At the end of the day, the NYC mayor can still get jerked around by the NY governor and legislature. It’s not a “the buck stops here” kind of job.

To be totally fair, though, small-state governors don’t make it in very often either (Bill Clinton, Franklin Pierce).

No, you can't. Minnesota doesn't record party affiliation for voters. They do not disclose which primary ballot you select, either, with an exception of presidential primary request lists being sent to party chairs.

(There was no presidential primary in 2022, FWIW.)

Wasn't predicting this, not surprised either. Chaos is the Trump mode.

Probably gives you a sense of how long it takes Stephen Miller to put together a PowerPoint slide deck and get a meeting in.

You posted this several times, but it's substantially misinformative. He's married with kids (not an incel) and Minnesota does not register voters by party.

The state board he worked on listed him as having no party preference, he has been cited as voting for Trump.

You appear to be spreading misinformation. Religious, yes. Minnesota does not register voters by party, and he was married with children, rather than an incel.

Minnesota doesn't do voter registration by party. He was listed as no party preference on his state-appointed board, btw.

Also, he was married with children. You seem to have gotten a very strange set of "facts."

There was a whole subgenre of early Star Wars EU fiction that was like this. "Hey, what about [BACKGROUND PERSON/THING] we saw once for five seconds in the movie? What's their version of the story?"

Some of it was pretty great, some pretty silly. The Boba Fett part really took off, though.

He repeatedly announced his support for defunding the police in 2020. He's walked that back. The flip-flops are real.

(Along with Cuomo, to be fair; he's far from the only person to embrace the slogan when it was fashionable and start walking away from it when it flopped.)

Minnesota doesn’t register voters by party affiliation.

The board he was on did, but had him listed as “no party preference.”

We do have one witness claiming he was a mostly-apolitical Trump voter. We also know he was a big fan of Congolese refugees. YMMV.

Minnesota does not register voters by party.

If you remember who told you that he was registered as a Republican, I recommend you treat that person as an unreliable source.

Could be. But doesn’t seem likely so far. No evidence of that has come out yet, and some evidence points away (“No Kings” fliers, Walz connection).
