think of us other europeans being denied visa-less London access. you can put it off to the side somewhere, it's a large & sparsely populated island

the words 'art' & 'artist' mean like 20 different things idk

I wonder if there's a fandom vs freelancer vs employee divide here. for the fan obv community IS the important thing; if you're employed as a concept artist or w e the portfolio site aimed at other industry pros is prob useful, for someone relying on book sales &/or commissions otoh, not so much

I kinda dislike this attitude where there's something almost impure abt wanting to be seen, that art should be all abt community etc. which in an ideal world, yes, but, yk

As much as folks might not want to believe it, artists who sell their work cannot survive exclusively on platforms that cater to primarily other artists. The Circulating The Same Five Dollars™️ model can't feed us or pay bills for long. We need places where we can be seen and discovered.

the idea that things like health, wealth etc are all ultimately luck-based is really scary to some ppl. since it sort of upends the whole notion of capitalism being in any way meritocratic

(positive note, the live music culture down here is kinda nice? lots of just random guitar ppl at restaurants & cafés etc, pleasantly casual, they're generally good at what they do. after breakup guy was done a 2nd man at the neighbouring restaurant started playing upbeat songs in portuguese)

I went on a very long flight to get here, gonna get my money's worth

the motorbikes especially are insane. remembering the mirror of my uber nearly getting knocked off (??) & having to reach my arm out through the window to sort of bend it back in place while the driver kept on driving. chaotic!!

was also going to suggest some sort of new meat comic money fund but we all want you to not die obv

so maybe the distinction ends up being the same, regardless
