At wartime, Sweden doesn't rely on permanent airbases. Instead the Gripens will be serviced at temporary airbases allocated at different paved roads.

The main criteria is a road long and straight enough to safetly overtake a lorry.

That would completly destroy the US status in world armament exports.

So far, the US has used its leverage in other ways. Finland and Norway both did choose F-35 partly with the thought that it could curry favors.

And best of all: the Gripen doesn't come with a kill-switch.

The Gripen is a good choice for Ukraine. It is designed to operate without airbases and be make ready for combat with a small number of peoble, where only one has to be a tecnichan and the rest conscripts.

This is a win-win deal. Swedes are flexible and gladly accept suggestions of improvements.

I am certain that Sweden will donate a small number (10-18) to Ukraine of the C/D version in the near future.

Why? Because it is a way to solidate the later delivery of the E version. And the C/D version is an excelent plane as it is. And it is a way to have the Gripen battle-proven.

When this was discussed two years ago, Sweden stopped taking parts from the C/D version to use in building the E version. Sweden also budgeted a large sum of money probably related to donate Gripens to Ukraine.

Sweden and Ukraina has sign a lettet of intent to delover 100-150 Jas 39 Gripen E. Now starts the work to plan and implement this project.

This week the first Gripen E was delivered to Sweden's airforce, so it will take some time for deliveries.
