feels like yet again time to mention that the *videogames* industry (that's a creative industry, which people do creative degrees in) brings in more than twice the amount to the British economy as the fishing and steel industries *combined*

Manic Miner is a true #retrogaming classic, I enjoyed it on the #ZXSpectrum, then in the 1990s on the #SAMCoupe which has to be the definitive #8bit version, with 60 caverns! I recently revamped the back issue of SAM Revival magazine (#9) which features the game on the coverdisk. www.samcoupe.com

Fairlight crashonline.org.uk/22/fairlght....

โ€œUltimate first introduced us to realistic 3D graphics but sadly not a lot of game was bolted on to them. Now, thanks to The Edge, that gap has been filled.โ€

Starquake crashonline.org.uk/22/starquke....

โ€œStarquakeโ€™s main appeal lies with its design. Itโ€™s so well thought out. The graphics are very good indeed, both the movement and backgrounds. The content of the graphics is amazing โ€” they donโ€™t get very repetitive even over the 512 screens.โ€

Quite proud of this. This is the original Taito flyer art for Renegade (as used for the loading screen on the Speccy version). I've had a few partial scans and B/W photocopies over the years, but finally found a dog-eared over exposed full image. Several days of re-touching and I think we're there!

Here are the computer hardware and software charts from November 1983 - PCN Magazine, UK. There were so many computers to choose from back then. Many disappeared without a trace, but the Spectrum, Commodore and BBC Micro sold really well. Great games available from Ultimate, Imagine, Bug Byte etc.

old games were cool because it was long before anyone had to give a shit about mass market appeal so could just make a game about Shit Simon the Stupid Old Fuck and that rules

Winter Games โ€“ โ€œCalgary, Ontarioโ€ While the UKโ€™s market for computer games grew rapidly from 1983, things were not going the same way with adjacent markets over in America. As former Action Graphics programmer David Thiel expโ€ฆ

After the 1984 Olympics, there was a glut of multi-sport computer games. One Epyx game managed to stand out through its graphics and elegant mechanics, and because it took on a whole new season. New post on the story of Winter Games:
