For sure the first thought of every Silicon Valley ceo and investor is “how can I use this to steal faster than the next guy”

That hasn’t changed in many generations of tech bubble. But the tech sticks around and usually ends up being pretty cool :)

Right now it’s a bit of a parlor trick because the “cool text prediction” engine can mimic human interaction believably enough to impress, but the models aren’t as powerful as they will be soon.

And yeah, the greed engine corrupts every new amazing technology (see: the internet)

MISTR (and a slew of LGB and particularly “T” healthcare access companies) wouldn’t need to exist if doctors were doing their job in the first place.

I’m sorry for ranting. I read a post about not using AI for anything related to your health and it was the dumbest thing I’ve heard in so long that I just went blank for a bit. I’m back now.

It’s important that you can have a rash and ask the internet. Do not shill for a world where someone gets to charge you for information. Shill for a world where you don’t have to depend on Google OR your doctor to get it.

Which spread like wildfire and brought medicine (such as it was in the dark ages … not much worse than it is today) to the common folk.

It was like, 40% myth. As medicine always is.

But people stopped dying because now a village could treat themselves.

This left the average person helpless, creating a whole secondary profession of (let’s call them) witch doctors that did not speak Latin but actually existed in their communities.

Until one guy decided “ok I understand Latin. I’m going to write all this stuff down … but in vernacular German”

We laugh about WebMD and its constant misdiagnosis of symptoms but seriously, have those websites not helped people?

This is not a new problem. Before modern day, doctors would only write in Latin because it was important that medicine was a secret within the guild.

Access and scope for information distribution matters just as much as accuracy.

A 98% accurate test that is cheap enough for everyone to do is often better than a 99.9% test that only the rich can have.

When the entire profession of dermpath has been replaced by image recognition technology from ten years ago with higher accuracy and recall than any human physician …

It’s just mind blowing that anyone would suggest “let the poor die” as the proper course of action.

So when your poor friend goes and uses a computer to figure out what to do about that weird spot on their skin instead of paying $300 they don’t have to see a doctor that will refer them to a specialist that will charge them another $1000 two months later to send it to a dermpath lab …

The tension between the nursing class and the clinician class is real: the practical need to treat people is always at odds with the clinician guilds’ need to protect themselves.

People dying has never been the problem. Access to care is not what is being optimized for.

My eye twitches when people suggest that seeing a doctor or a professional is the only correct course of action to manage your health, physical or mental.

Care in the current world crafted by clinicians is intentionally exclusive and expensive, specifically to keep clinician salaries inflated.

honestly I could probably power an actual portable AC with the amount of power the solar panels generate BUT I don't want to bother with an inverter so this DC fan will do!

Yeah I picked a high CFM case fan because the application will be burning man, insanely hot, and the noise will be covered over by the environment. But definitely a trade off noise vs flow :)
