Black and white photo of a dinner scene, several older light skinned people are sitting and focusing on whatever foods are laid out before them. A short haired tabby cat is standing, stretched up on its hind legs with its front paws gripped over the edge of the table like it’s trying to see what’s up there or possibly drag itself up

Best glory I’ve ever seen from a plane! It’s an optical phenomenon that occurs when light interacts in and around tiny droplets of water in the clouds, in the direction opposite the sun. More complex than a rainbow. Here’s a link to some more info: www.zmescience.com/science/phys... #optics #physics

I have some bookshelves that could use a finishing job as well, but that's another project for another day.

And that's a wrap! Re-finishing is done and I added hairpin legs. The surface is still not as smooth as I'd like, but overall I'm quite happy with where I got with this table.

For the eleventy billionth time:

Attacks on science funding and science jobs in the United States don’t mean that science will just move elsewhere.

It means a lot less science for everyone.

There aren’t enough jobs or funding everywhere else )combined) for US scientists to just move.

The table (minus the legs) was made by my grandfather in high school in 1961. I think it may have been re-finished once since then, so it was due for it.

Still got a bit of setting to do and then some touch-up on the sides, but it's almost there. Calling it a success overall.

At 17, Hannah Cairo Solved a Major Math Mystery | Quanta Magazine After finding the homeschooling life confining, the teen petitioned her way into a graduate class at Berkeley, where she ended up disproving a 40-year-old conjecture.

Currently intermission. It’s really something that a play from 1611 has me doing this.

This weekend’s project was to go to the maker space at the local library to sand this coffee table surface. Very happy with how it’s coming along.

Star Trek The Original Series scene. Enterprise bridge view screen is front and center with an alien head looking off center right. Mr. Alien has a large brain area, long & tall pointed nose, and skin that's greyish with a dash of purple and green. Ominous fellow. Caption READS, "YOU ARE WASTING TIME AND EFFORT. "

Paperless-ngx

I have accumulated a lot of PDFs and most are now safely stowed in paperless-ngx on my NAS. Took a while to import but basically seamless, and with a pretty UI. docs.paperless-ngx.com

Independence Day is squarely in "guilty pleasure" as a movie for me - it requires more suspension of disbelief than it can really bear but it's a blast.
