So yeah if I was the train company owning those trains, I have no problem selling them subject to them not being used against me. I.e. on routes in my own country I don't operate on, or outside my own country.

Well obviously we want these trains to stay in use if they still have some years left in them, but on the other side, if you are a train company would you seriously sell your trains to someone to compete against your own services? Commonsense says No!

There could be a compromise that any sets cannot be used to be in competition with the seller's routes. So eg old TGVs could be used outside France (like Serbia) or on a line in France that SNCF don't already operate a high speed service on.
