If you want to see how many philosophers still believe in the mesmeric force of their moral utterances, just read the comments section of any post on a controversial subject, over at Daily Nous. It's a source of great amusement. The self importance and lack of self awareness is incredible.

I've tried to do it with the book ones, and inevitably, at some point, I get distracted and miss a whole bunch.

I also have vigorous physical activity every morning -- in my case, I'm a pretty competitive tennis player -- which gives me a lot of energy and also is a mind-clearer.

I wish I had some. My writing window used to be smaller -- maybe 10-1 -- because I would get up later. I turned out to have sleep apnea, so once I got a cpap machine, I found myself much more rested in the morning. I now have a longer window of "clear writing mind," about 8-1. Is your sleep restful?

I’m at my best writing-wise from about an hour after I get up (and a few espressos) through lunch. Once too much of the day’s clutter has accumulated, I am less creative and imaginative and am easily distractible.

I don’t have the attention span for 30 of anything. Here are four:

I've always done my best writing before lunch. So, in that sense, I've been a morning person for quite a while. What changed is that I ceased to be a late night person, which I was until around 50 or so.
