My story 'The Fire' has been accepted by 34 Orchard, for publication in April, 2026. A rare non-speculative piece for me. No sci-fi or fantasy in this story. A couple in a flagging relationship go camping. As they kindle a campfire, can they also rekindle their love for each other?

Fascism is bad, actually. I didn't think I'd have to say this in 2025, but apparently some people didn't get that memo.

I have been listening to the Audible edition of Gareth L Powell's 'About Writing'. It's very good. Lots of good advice about writing. Some good advice about living, too. And Mr Powell's narration is pleasant to listen to. Recommended.

I got my first (that I know of) negative review. I shall print it and frame it and display it next to my first rejection and my first acceptance.

I think the appropriate coherent response to the suggestion of Joe Duffy as a unifying left candidate is: 'no fucking way'. But I see in today's news he says he's not running anyway. The whole thing made about as much sense as Trump wanting to be Pope. We live in strange times.

I'm currently listening to the audio-book editions of the 'Murderbot' series. It's got lots of violence, some graphic gore. But I would argue that it is, in fact, cosy. It's cosy because of its celebration of human kindness and decency. That, to me, is cosy.
