The official Green Party of England and Wales’s Asylum and Migration Policy Working Group. Campaigning for a fair and humane system of migration.

Carla Denyer challenges the Home Secretary's new immigration reforms saying they just fuel far-right narratives.
A Government of cowards.
Rather than tackle inequality - they've gone for pensioners, disabled people and now it's people fleeing war and persecution.
They can't get away with this.

Screenshot of a headline reading: "Refugees' jewellery could be seized to pay for asylum costs, says Home Office minister."
This is a new low from a govt plumbing the depths of performative cruelty in hopes that the public won’t notice they have no answers to the real issues facing this country
A sensible, humane govt would focus on safe routes to prevent people making dangerous small boat crossings
A useful resource here from @gmiau.bsky.social for anyone anyone having 'difficult conversations' about migration.

Of course two of the options not listed in this article 🙄 is to allow asylum seekers to work while they wait for a decision, and to make those decisions a lot quicker.
We deserve better media and a better government than this.

Green Party Migration Policy MG300.
The functions of the Home Office will be divided between a Department of the Interior and a Department of Migration, which, among other duties, will handle all visa applications.
Caroline in pale mac and Carla in dark jacket standing with TfL workers affected by skilled worker visa changes listening to speeches at an RMT rally with banners and placards.
I've spoken to TfL workers who are terrified about sudden Skilled Worker visa changes.
In less than 3 weeks, hundreds of workers risk losing their jobs, their homes and the right to stay in the country they’ve been building their lives in. [1/3]

14.10.2025 17:07 — 👍 6 🔁 3 💬 0 📌 0I raised the devastating impact of sudden visa rule changes with the Mayor – over 200 TfL workers are at risk of deportation.
These are people who trusted the system, built lives here and are now left in limbo.
I'm glad the Mayor has committed to lobby the Government and support these workers.
Our article is here.. when we hear huge numbers like £4.7 billion spent in 2023-4 on asylum accommodation, it is always worth talking about who is actually getting our money.

In August we investigated how the hotel millionaires were profiting from the asylum support system, good to see the BBC catching up..

The only political party whose policies are in line with the recommendations made by Praxis. Lib Dems close. Everyone else miles away and actively working against our charitable objectives.

These performative policies are not bad because they are 'unworkable' or because we 'need' migrants, it is because they are cruel and will break up families 💔

This is a mindless and dangerous comment from the Government
If they are upset for 'legitimate reasons' why are they targeting asylum seekers and not protesting outside the Home Office
www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...
“The only way to stop people making dangerous journeys across the channel is to introduce safe and managed routes for people to seek asylum in the UK. Anything else – including the impractical and unrealistic deal announced today – is a distraction.
greenparty.org.uk/2025/07/10/g...
The Green Party believes that people seeking asylum, and their dependents, should be allowed to work and start rebuilding their lives immediately on arrival to the UK.
migration.greenparty.org.uk/right-to-wor...
The pull factor is a myth. Evidence from countries like Germany and Canada, which grant earlier work rights, shows no correlation between work access and the number of asylum applications.
People seeking asylum are driven to move by safety concerns, not employment opportunities.
A better solution is available... Allowing asylum seekers to work would help restore their dignity and sense of purpose. Being barred from working can lead to frustration and feelings of isolation. The right to work should be viewed as an essential human right.
