Absolutely chilling. A borders and asylum minister who wants to "ramp up our appetite there." The government has completely lost sense of any compassion.

The Government says these reforms are βfor councilsβ, but councils themselves are warning they will cause real harm.
Southwark Councilβs leader has said the Governmentβs new asylum plans are βdeeply concerningβ β increasing homelessness, traumatising children, and separating families.
Children are still going missing yet it is acceptable to house 16-and 17-year-old trafficking victims in so-called βsupported accommodationβ. The system disproportionately affects unaccompanied asylum-seeking and trafficked children. It is not working. Every child deserves to be safe and protected.

20.11.2025 14:55 β π 46 π 31 π¬ 4 π 10We already see the devastating impact of 20 year routes on individuals. They need scrapping, not more people forced onto them. Any of us can find ourselves needing help at some stage. Pushing people into more debt and misery because they do is unjust and discriminatory.

In 2018 young people on the 10-year route lodged judicial review claims challenging refusals to grant settlement. Their claims documented the devastating impact of the 10-year route on young people & resulted in a major govt concession. Govt proposals today to double this route are punitive & cruel.
20.11.2025 14:23 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Lots of Labour MPs asking Mahmood tonight to rule out child detention. She wonβt rule it out. Thatβs because forced removals of families will mean children in detention for periods.
Home Office ruling out deportation of lone minors but the changes will certainly mean more detention of children.
Who knows the asylum system best?
People who've been through it.
Who shapes policy?
Often everyone BUT them.
Change this.

17.11.2025 13:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Illegal migration isn't tearing the country apart. Racism is tearing the country apart. The young refugees we work with desperately need to heal and move forward in safety. They deserve to build a future. They cannot do this if their stay is only temporary and they live in the shadow of removal.
