Alongside more than 100 MPs, peers and union leaders, we have written to the Home Secretary demanding she immediately halt her 'earned settlement' reforms.

These proposals will only inflict harm on families, communities, public services, and the economy. They must not pass.

Accessing welfare support during hardship or being unable to maintain regularised status must not result in punishment or exclusion from settlement.

One key question asks about penalties for people who access public funds or have β€œoverstayed”. You can select that there be no additional penalties and argue that settlement be based on time lived in the UK, regardless of immigration status or experience of poverty, within a shorter capped timeframe

Longer temporary status means prolonged insecurity: restricted rights, higher costs, barriers to services, and increased risk of being made undocumented altogether. These impacts ripple across families and communities, entrenching inequality rather than supporting integration or social cohesion.

For undocumented people, it risks making already decades-long routes even longer or removing them altogether, particularly for those labelled β€œnon-compliant” or as having β€œoverstayed”.

12.02.2026 01:37 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The proposals would extend and harden routes to settlement, increasing the time most migrants must remain on temporary, insecure status. This affects people across work, family and community life β€” including parents, carers, workers, students, and long-term residents.

People are talking about a β€œU-turn” on digital IDs.

New digital checks are still planned, which will make life harder for many people.

There is another way: let people work openly, uphold their rights, & create ways for all to regularise their immigration status.

The right to work's a human right

Let's build a real mass movemement for the rights of all migrants this coming year and beyond. It's the only way we will stop the government's attacks on migrants' rights and bring about meaningful change.

Labour's immigration shake-up is like the hostile environment on steroids Labour's new immigration rules pushes migrant workers into irregularity, exploitation and poverty, says campaigner Munya Radzi.

As 2025 comes to a close, we want to highlight just how difficult this year has been for migrants in the UK β€” documented & undocumented.

Harmful rule changes, a deepening Hostile Environment, and a long struggle ahead. But also resistance.

Thoughts and prayers to this government’s humanity. You cannot unite a country by abandoning humanity. When governments other and dehumanise people, they don’t heal divisions β€” they deepen them, and in the process dehumanise themselves.

17.11.2025 21:14 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

These policies put lives at risk β€” both those on the move & those already here. They make people less safe, fuel exploitation & guarantee more suffering. The government must stop the harm it is creating & overseeing. It has lost its humanity, but it is not too late to regain it.

17.11.2025 18:28 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Imposing visa penalties on countries that don’t β€˜co-operate’ with the UK’s hostile and racist immigration policies exposes imperial arrogance. The UK preaches β€˜sovereignty’ while punishing nations it colonised and invaded. Migration is global β€” but power isn’t shared equally.

17.11.2025 18:28 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Regularise rejects the narrative of β€˜failed asylum seekers.’ People are failed by an asylum system built on hostility and exclusion, not support or compassion. Scaling up removals in a system that already gets so much wrong only deepens state violence and increases harm.

17.11.2025 18:28 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Framing families as creating β€˜perverse incentives’ is dangerous. Parents don’t risk their lives/their children’s lives for loopholes β€” they do it for safety & opportunity. Removing support creates harm. Millions of Europeans moved to Americas seeking the same safety & opportunity

17.11.2025 18:28 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

If undocumented peope & asylum seekers were allowed to work, they wouldn’t be forced into the shadows. Banning people from working and then criminalising them for trying to survive creates the very exploitation the government claims to oppose. Raids don’t solve it β€” rights do.

17.11.2025 18:28 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Framing UK asylum support as β€˜generous’ distorts reality. People survive on minimal allowances β€” often between Β£9 and Β£49 per week β€” in unstable accommodation and without the right to work. It’s not generosity, it’s the bare minimum to prevent destitution.

17.11.2025 18:28 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

There’s little evidence for the β€˜pull factor.’ It’s an old myth used to justify policies that target racialised migrants. People move for safety, stability & opportunity β€” not to exploit systems. Cruelty won’t deter people in desperate situations; it only reveals systemic racism.

17.11.2025 18:28 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Longer settlement routes help no-one. When people can settle sooner, many feel more relaxed & hopeful, supporting needs for connection, belonging & participation. Extending routes limits stability &support. UK must abolish policies that marginalise migrants & undermine our rights

More people are being made undocumented β€” not by accident, but by design.

The system itself creates and traps people in irregularised immigration status.

The government knows this β€” and that it can be fixed with a stroke of a pen.
