He's one of the few filmmakers where you can just legit take any random frame from one of his films, no matter which period, and put it on your wall.

Bin ehrlich entsetzt.

A lot of us are rolling our eyes at how fascists are misusing the term β€œdoxxing.” Alas, joke’s on us, because what they’re really doingβ€”as fascism always doesβ€”is redefining language. They’re using β€œdoxxing” as a synonym for β€œjournalism,” enabling the criminalization of the latter.

"Forty-two years ago, for reasons beyond my comprehension, David Lynch plucked me out of obscurity to star in his first and last big budget movie. He clearly saw something in me that even I didn’t recognize. I owe my entire career, and life really, to his vision.

What I saw in him was an enigmatic and intuitive man with a creative ocean bursting forth inside of him. He was in touch with something the rest of us wish we could get to.

Our friendship blossomed on Blue Velvet and then Twin Peaks and I always found him to be the most authentically alive person I’d ever met.

David was in tune with the universe and his own imagination on a level that seemed to be the best version of human. He was not interested in answers because he understood that questions are the drive that make us who we are. They are our breath.

While the world has lost a remarkable artist, I’ve lost a dear friend who imagined a future for me and allowed me to travel in worlds I could never have conceived on my own.

I can see him now, standing up to greet me in his backyard, with a warm smile and big hug and that Great Plains honk of a voice. We’d talk coffee, the joy of the unexpected, the beauty of the world, and laugh.

His love for me and mine for him came out of the cosmic fate of two people who saw the best things about themselves in each other.

I will miss him more than the limits of my language can tell and my heart can bear. My world is that much fuller because I knew him and that much emptier now that he’s gone.

David, I remain forever changed, and forever your Kale. Thank you for everything."

Undervolting the Steam Deck is really amazing if you won the silicon lottery... Managed to get a stable -20/-40/-40 CPU/GPU/SOC undervolt, and now I'm getting stable 40fps with very few frametime spikes in both RDR2 and Elden Ring β™₯️ This is with the optimizations from medium.com/@a.b.t./here...

It’s great to see more websites use #IIIF & prominently display "Copy manifest URL" links. But while building liiive.now, I noticed something: many sites block outside use, despite showing the link (CORS...). Likely unintentional & suggests external re-use remains uncommon. There’s still work ahead!

πŸ‘πŸΌ Point taken. I see the problem, it's the logical conclusion to the way things are developing at the moment. I just think that this specific example is nothing particularly new (see my reply with the garbage dvd cover).

I doubt that there wasn't some human in the loop here, at least for selecting the final image, maybe even some compositing work. And then, how is this worse than some unpaid intern photoshopping some assets together?

πŸ˜… sorry for the lingo, but what's so bad about more people being exposed to classic films, even if it's through means that are sketchy?

Of course the AI slop posters on Prime are horrible, but then shit artwork was totally normal for VHS and DVD releases as well. AI is replacing those, not stuff like the beautiful Criterion covers. And if it drives engagement for stuff like the original Nosferatu version, why not?

With all due respect, Jon, this is not a big deal? Publishers have been using custom movie posters for different releases for as long as there has been a movie industry. Nobody's complaining about Criterion creating their own artwork for their releases.

I don't even know if there's such a thing as an "original" movie poster for that film. Different publishers made different versions for different releases, it's really no big deal IMO. Here are some versions from the time of the original release. More here: de.movieposterdb.com/nosferatu-ei...
