Just saw ROOFMAN: there was a time when you could go to the multiplex any weekend and see something straightforwardly grownup with this much comfy storytelling nous and easy-breezy star power, but now it feels like something rare, which gets it sized up as a prestige item, which isn’t quite right.

I'm seated for whatever Annapurna Sriram makes next. The theatre employees scared and asking me to leave because "it doesn't exist yet" but I'm simply too seated.

FUCKTOYS: Instantly iconic, fun, sexy, chaotic, a killer soundtrack, some of the hottest people you've ever seen on celluoid, and a really cute baby goat. What more could you want! A perfect Prince Charles Cinema film. #LFF

LURKER: Starts off fine but gets better as its layers slowly get peeled off. Théodore Pellerin and Archie Madekwe are excellent, in fact everyone is so well cast and play their roles so well. Still wish it dug a little deeper into it's theme. The score is very overbearing. #LFF

BUGONIA: Holy shit that was so much dark than I was expecting. A great satire made even greater by Plemons and Stone's performances. They are on fucking fire here! 🔥🔥🔥 Jerskin Fendrix's bombastic score was another highlight. #LFF

Sheila Atim has been cast as Akasha in ‘THE VAMPIRE LESTAT.’

Like all families, the film isn't perfect (as a whole it maybe feels a bit too disjointed), but you will be watching it with a stupid smile on your face the entire time. Panda has Star Power! (2/2) #LFF

THE LOVE THAT REMAINS: Palmason's love for his family, animals, nature, the Earth, machines, art, clearly shine through every frame here - like it is truly a beautiful and sincere film in every sense of the word. The magical surrealist elements are really awesome and playful. (1/2) #LFF

The film probably reads better on paper (ie, the book it’s adapted from), but Rowan Joffe of Tin Star fame’s script doesn’t capture that. I continue to be the only person who likes Volker Bertelmann’s BWOMP BWOMP film scores. (3/3) #LFF

Farrell’s character isn’t interesting at all nor is it thrilling to follow him run from his past. I also didn’t like aspects of his performance, as he often hams it up at bit. There's just nothing to grip your teeth into. (2/3) #LFF

BALLAD OF A SMALL PLAYER: Surprising, the first dud of the fest. Aside from it’s colourful cinematography, the film is just a boring "white man in asian" film, that admittedly does get better in it’s last act. (1/3) #LFF

DJ AHMET: Really charming and occasionally funny coming-of-age film. You've seen this type of story before, but it does it splendidly. My audience loved it. Wished there was more music. The non-verbal kid was fucking awesome. Sheep! #LFF

RESURRECTION: I mean what the fuck do you even say to that? Spellbinding, Capital-C Cinema. Make all your dreams into movies no matter what. #LFF

WAKE UP DEAD MAN: They just keep getting better! The same incredible twisty sharp script with a dash of horror, religion and politics. Steve Yedlin’s cinematography continues to be the beckon of how to shoot a film digitally. Glenn Close Oscar unironically. #LFF

HUMAN RESOURCE: And to the surprise of absolutely no-one, Nawapol has done it again. He's defiantly cemented himself as one of my favourite filmmakers. #LFF

EXIT 8: Exceeded all of my expectations. A great example of a good adaptation; expanding the games premise, world, and doing something new with it, becoming a touching story of fatherhood. Claustrophobic, suffocating, engaging, scary and never repetitive. #LFF

One Battle After Another and Sinners both lay out a formula for cinema success: diverse movies where white nationalists get duffed in the most graphic way possible shot and presented in increasingly baroque high resolution formats.

I went into One Battle After Another knowing zilch & was amazed to find a movie that posits violent resistance to an authoritarian regime as the norm, a film where revolutionaries are sexy as fuck, a film that accepts as a given that the US is run by a cabal of old white supremacists. A 2025 movie.
