Today is Juneteenth. This day commemorates the delayed freedom of Black Americans. Freedom that came years late, after white enslavers had already enjoyed two and a half more years of stolen labor after the abolition of slavery.

There is no video but today I got up in front of people at this qualitative research conference and told them what we all know to be true: drum corps is gay. My supervisor said I did amazing.

It is so wild watching my social work scholar peers win awards and thousands of dollars for their "activism and contributions to the community" when I have never seen them at a single action/effort that didn't have a police permit. I'm lucky to get a leftover mutual aid sandwich.

This Fathers Day, please take some time to learn about and support parents caught in the carceral and family policing systems. They love their kids as much as you do, and have as much right to celebrate with them today.

We polished up the RHLI band's trophies last night. Five years after we won this, members of the RHLI band who wanted to compete in a non-military style created the Viscounts Drum & Bugle Corps, which operated as a senior corps until merging with the Jolly Jesters in 1963.
