Just before Christmas, I got a puppy. Her name is Minerva, and we call her *Minnie. I'm still learning how to understand her. Me: Do you need to go outside? Do you need to go outside, little baby? Do you need to do a poo? Do you need to do a widdle piddle? Minnie: Arf! *I just call her "little baby" most of the time. I'm also realizing I can't turn off the baby talk now. Nobody tells you about that.

I got so lucky with my first puppy. Her wonderful foster parents had her completely house-trained by the time we adopted her, so taking her outside for potty time has been pretty easy. I've got the puppy poopy routine pretty much down, now. Me, putting on my coat: Let's see... I got the little poopy bags, puppy treats for bribes, jacket, scarf, phone… I think that's everything… Oh yes! And my passport.

I had been carrying around my passport for a while, but I knew it didn't matter. This is wrong. Nobody is required to carry around their papers. I became a US citizen when I was seven. Since I was born in a refugee camp, I was stateless. The US is the only nation where I've ever held citizenship. It's the only passport I've ever had, and it still felt important. Protective. I would hold it in my pocket like a talisman, like it might ward off ghosts or something. But I realized I was holding onto it basically out of superstition. ICE will pick up anybody. I know that. So I tucked my passport away. And I largely avoid leaving my house.

I live a few blocks just South of George Floyd Square. I was in the neighborhood for that, too. And all the neighbors came together to protect each other. We're already organized. We'll do our best to get through this. Me, to my dog: I hope I can take you for a walk someday soon. Won't that be nice, little baby?

I am, in fact, Second Summoner of the Cloud Spire, Keeper of the Spark, Walker of Rainbows, and First Clerk to the Lord of Dreams, and I will not be subject to the likes of some common hedge mage with a grudge!” “Your name’s Libertus. You fight for whoever wants you.”

Premise A unicorn bound to service in the Tower of Dreams, Lesley was once considered one of the purest and most powerful magical beings in the realm of light — that is, until he was found guilty of treason against the Lord of Dreams himself. Of course, those lofty beings of light would never sentence one of their own to death. As a measure of mercy, Lesley faces a much more practical punishment: banished to the Greylands, his name added to the list of summons, the once dignified Lesley — now known as ‘Libertus’ — finds himself now at the beck and call of any magic user who might summon him into their world. A shame he’s summoned into a brutal Witch’s War. His only hope of surviving the war and clawing his way back up the ranks to the realm of light lies is in the most unlikely of allies: an ogre, by the name of ‘Rubedo.’ Warnings Audience Discretion Is Advised LIBERTUS RUBEDO is a fantasy adventure online serial novel featuring complex characters in traumatic and abusive situations. It will explore graphic depictions involving scenarios of violence, death, abuse, power, and also contain sexual subject matter. Hiveworks was supposed to be a beacon for webcomickers. It was supposed to be an indie opportunity to flourish in the small ways we can.
But it became yet another example of a greedy publisher who saw an opportunity to take and take and take.

It was also a vanity project for Isa and Xel too. They wanted the prestige of working in 'publishing' but didn't care a lick about the artists who brought readers in. If you were someone she thought was an artistic threat, Isa would go out of her way to humble you and put you in your place.

I took the risks I did, i didn't care about being 'everyone's friend' or missed out on 'the connections' because I didn't want to play that game.
Artists were feeling used, stolen from, and neglected. I spoke up, and many others started to feel safe to do so too.

Heeeyy, we can finally talk about this! So, I would like to co-sign everything in this open letter. I would also like to tell everyone about a specific grievance that @femonologue.bsky.social and I have with Xellette after the mishandling of our kickstarter. Screencap/receipts in🧵 to follow!

All this to say: Don't work with these people. I hope that Xell takes this as a hint that she should retire from the comics scene completely and we never hear another thing from or about her. If you see Xell starting a new comics-adjacent or creative collective or venture, RUN!
