Photoshop is an impressively unoptimized piece of software. I have a 3080 with 10GB of VRAM. I play games on high settings with no problems. Yet I rotate a page in Photoshop and there's always a 60% chance that it will make my GPU crash the fuck out and restart its drivers after a couple minutes.

One thing that doing creative work teaches you is that ideas are worth nothing. Anybody can have an idea. In a writers room you have to come up with a hundred ideas a day, and most of those don’t make the page. It’s the work of making something that gives it value. The patina of humanity.

AI today is literally not capable of replacing the senior engineers they are laying off. corps are in fact getting less done, but they're banking on making an example of enough people that survivors put their heads down and help them implement AI in exchange for keeping their jobs... for now.

I've looked at a lot of resumes for aspiring translators and everytime I notice they have the relevant experience but they don't make it clear, meaning vendors are more likely to overlook them as potential freelancers.

Here's some resume advice if you're looking for freelance translation work.

My pitch for people to join the @cartoonist.coop! It’s a good resource for our community! Also join your local DSA chapter. Most have labor committees to help with organizing. These are ways I know we can work on changing things for the better under a capitalist hellscape.

My hot take is that publishers can solve their "damn, this artist can't meet a deadline" problem by paying us with the same regularity they pay their in-house staff. Because applying for hospital financial aid with the system we are currently paid in is a disaster.
