So this is also way back when I got way into VNs. Got into them cause my Crush at that time was also into them. This little gem had such cute characters and interesting plot (It was by Key, get your mind out of the gutter)

Current implementation: A server folder has the same height as any other server (1 unit). When clicked, it will roll out its contents as full-sized units, shifting other servers out of view. Alternative idea: A server folder consists of a couple servers overlapped slightly (takes a bit more space than a normal server). The last 3 used servers are displayed, and those can be clicked to access them. To access the other servers, hover the mouse cursor on the folder to reveal the rest of the servers in a tooltip-esque manner. Similar to Windows window grouping.

i don't think these even have to be ultra-sweeping changes. just improve the Inbox (best feature by very very very very very far), and perhaps make it so server folders & dms instead show the last 3 items and dropdown if you hover. just a dumb idea, avoids layout shift and forcefully keeps it tidy

but it does still have the serious problem of, even when i have all the server folders collapsed, if even a couple dms come in the entire ui feels cramped and it only helps overwhelm me which means i end up not responding → problem gets worse and worse

i especially hate how redditors killed tabsv2, as its entire purpose was to make the mobile UI actually good (moving things closer to thumbs, avoiding elements at the top of the screen, etc)
desktop doesn't have the physical requirements of needing to be operated with fingers on ever growing phones,

it's a shame the Favourites Server never really happened properly (though it requires too much setup for the average user)
i personally use a userstyle that moves the serverbar to the top to be horizontal which helps, but I still feel the server list is needlessly claustrophobic

idk, i feel it's dumb to give people things on a silver platter just because they can't be bothered to do the bare minimum to care themselves

well, the same issue applies everywhere with self-verification right
youll still need to be able to look at any of the linked domains and know from looking there if theyre a real deal or not
e.g. with a youtube link, you need to know to click it and check if they actually have subscribers etc

instead, not just rolling with the standard verification system but also outsourcing this already cursed policy problem to random organizations (like ...news agencies?) to make it even harder to align any sort of policy let alone have accountability...? it's such a bad idea

it's EXCEEDINGLY difficult to write policy for "this person is notable and should be given a signal of authority/trust".
notability is hard to quantify and it's nigh impossible to be impartial. hence why we decided to instead offer self-verification. people link their socials and others see them

this is somehow an even worse idea than traditional verification
i was gonna write a blogpost abt why we removed tetrio verification in favor of self-verification through other social media, but never got to it — but the gist is that verification policy is a cursed, unsolveable problem
