Seeing movies alone is like a religious pilgrimage. Good for mind, good for the soul.

An actor whose presence elevated everything she was in. I canโ€™t think a single time I saw Catherine Oโ€™Hara and thought, โ€œYou know who would have been better in that roleโ€ฆโ€ she was always the perfect choice. The movies lost one of their best. Thank you for never failing to make us smile.

Just a reminder, the greatest living American historian filmmaker, Ken Burns, released a 720 min exploration of every facet of the American revolution using zero generative AI and paying for all of its assets instead of cobbling it from stolen data, then he gave it away for free on PBS this year.

When I was translating Kon Satoshi, in order to understand him better I spent time reading his personal blog. I'll never forget him writing "They say what Aronofsky is doing is an "homage." I know my English isn't great, but I don't understand the difference between "homage" and being "ripped off."

Slight spoiler for The Secret Agent (it wonโ€™t make sense unless youโ€™ve actually seen the movie) but the Hairy Leg sequence has to be one of the best moments in cinema circa 2025 cinema. The explanation from Kleber Mendonรงa Filho is even more intriguing and horrifying.

The Secret Agent really is as good as everyone says. I really dig Kleber Mendonรงa Filhoโ€™s particular brand of weird.

Not sure I agree with the sentiment, but the cover is pretty damn cool. Love to see Silverman get credit as the artist.

Throwback Thursday: Murder on the Cunux Express 1980's "Terror Train" is a weird, messy, delightful jewel of the early slashers.

Free booze, mood lighting, deranged killers, and David Copperfield are just a few of the amenities you can expect when you board the Terror Train.

The only LotR spinoff Iโ€™m interested in is a slice-of-life story set in the Shire where where they solve a low-stakes mystery or go camping in the woods or something.

No other genre of film suffers more from a lack of a theatrical experience than comedy. Even horror movies can be enjoyed solo. With comedy, however, it always feels like something is missing when youโ€™re not laughing with other people.
