Indeed there are hundreds along the train tracks near my home in the centre of Akita City. It can be done without destroying the countryside.

Well, I think solar energy should be localised whether for one household or a small neighbourhood. That brings its own risks but so does being part of a huge electricity grid. Roofs are ideal for solar panels. Places like Akita have plenty of empty brownfield sites that could take solar panels....

Thank you sharing this. Yes, two body parts for the price of one! I suppose this one refers to 'making history/a historical moment'.

The hand on the shoulder suggests comforting and support for making a courageous decision??? (i.e., it's the right thing to do) ๐Ÿค”

I don't know if it will ever be enough to power most of the country, but I'd rather they put cash into wind and solar than nuclear. Safer and will work out much cheaper in the long run.

Thanks for this. Ordinarily, I would agree that nuclear power is much better than fossil fuels but after Fukushima I am still doubtful we can trust that proper safety measures are put in place. And wind turbines are getting put up everywhere here. Akita is by the sea and gets a lot of wind!

03.11.2025 12:18 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Can't you buy energy from prefectures that create a lot of wind power? Most, if not all, of Akita's wind energy is sold to outside energy companies.

...people still understand the meaning? I think so.

With 'history won't forgive us/be kind etc', does the reader think of future generations or history books? ๐Ÿค” Presumably the former but it becomes an erroneous expression if taken literally. We would be the history! ๐Ÿ˜…

Yes, I suppose that is more of a mentonym. 'The history books will not be kind' could be considered a literal expression rather than a metaphor? I feel 'history won't forgive us' is similar to 'the proof of the pudding'. Many miss out 'is in the eating' these days. Is it so entrenched that...

Working on metaphors in political speech right now and the 'history will/won't...' metaphor is an interesting one.

First of all, who/what is history? Secondly, surely it is future generations that won't forgive us (the history)? I guess it comes from 'the history books won't be kind' metaphor...

Another update to the fall-spring transition plans (h/t @rbyryo.bsky.social) - of the ยฅ10.8 billion the league has set aside for the transition, ยฅ5 billion ($32.9m) will be used as subsidies for northern clubs to buy cold-weather equipment such as air domes, heating systems and pitch covers.

I appreciate players develop at different ages but a talent like his would probably have come to the fore by 21/22.

...and that's too late, especially if you want a decent career abroad. Financial rules mean a lot of Euro clubs won't touch you if you're in your late-20s as there's little profit potential (as sad as these considerations are). If Kaoru Mitoma was 25 he would have got an even bigger move by now.

I think more J League academy/SHS players will forego uni to start their pro careers at 18 and not 22. I am strongly in favour of getting an education but there's no reason they can't do it PT in this day and age. A lot of players don't get going until 26/27 currently...

Akita to seek SDF deployment over bear attacks More than 100 people across the country have been killed or injured by bears in the current fiscal year.

Akita is considering asking for the deployment of Self-Defense Forces troops following a spate of bear attacks across the prefecture.

Hmmm. Possibly but often negatively affects us too. If the ball is moving along the surface quickly, you could knock it around us much faster. Yamagata did that to us earlier in the season.

I think we have similar issues. Very low budget so can't sign any game-changers apart from a bit of a risk from the league below. Akita getting Komatsu from Matsumoto was a bit of a coup though it took over half a season for him to get going. It's just so hard to keep players in J League...
