Today I spent some time making the new react-window docs look pretty ✨

If an app has an uncommon need that react-window doesn't quite support, that's okay. There are many other virtualization libraries to choose from nowadays.

I'm also being pretty ruthless about cutting any prop that I think isn't super useful in the common case. Supporting too many corner case props is exhausting and kills a library.

The interactive parts of the docs are still hand written, but I've got the project setup to convert TypeScript types into JSON which I'm using to generate decently functional "Props" pages per component type.

I think this will be easier to maintain than the old API docs were.

TBH I'm having more fun playing with the doc site UI/UX than the actual component library

Considering a new API for react-window that's simpler (built-in auto sizing, fewer props/options)

Dunno if I'll finish it because I burn out quickly on virtualization type projects, but it's kind of fun to reimagine the API if I was willing to make a lot of backward-breaking simplifications.

I didn't mean it quite that literally. I can mute the term(s) on some platforms, yeah, but the concept is everywhere– even my workplace, so I can't really avoid it regardless.

I wish I could nope out of the constant stream of news/posts/stories about AI

I’m not as tempting a target as you, but this sort of thing is the main reason I keep mine account open, even though I’m not using it anymore.

I guess I thought NOAA texts would be weather related but maybe that’s not the case

Got a “police action, shelter in place”sms just now with no explanation, and it was from NOAA which further confuses me

It’s so frustrating to hear him repeat the same meaningless nonsense 🥹 while his supporters nod along in agreement 🥲

That is a bummer. I abandoned Threads a while back because the notifications kept pushing nonsense that I didn’t care about. I mostly only use IG to message my tattoo artist.

I’ve seen mention online of people seeing very questionable things on their Feed, but I haven’t experienced it firsthand before. The only thing I use Facebook for is connecting with family and former classmates, so the fact that I ended up in a weird hole like this seems pretty damning.

I think Facebook must consider clicking “show less” in the “…” Reels menu as an interaction, because I’ve actually been getting more of them- and they’ve recently gotten disturbing. I don’t even know what to do since interacting to report them seems to make things worse 😕

Ran 10.25 miles today and 8.25 yesterday ☺️ I love the summer weather

There was a big neighborhood wide, several hundred people one in the park near my place last weekend. Organized ahead of time so people were divided into teams of 10 or so.

It sucks how much more expensive the good stuff has gotten in the past few months, too 😩

It usually either makes me feel sad (about…the world) or irritated by the horrible ads

Facebook Reels in particular frustrate me because they’re often hyper-sexual for some reason and FB gives you no way to opt out. Fuck that

I hate Facebook’s feed, but I check it sometimes out of habit. I would delete it except that I’ve used it to auth a few other services I care about (like Soundcloud)

At this point, all Social media (except maybe Bsky) annoys me more than anything else. Feels sad admitting that

PS. The official Amtrak website is almost shockingly bad. The UX for looking up a train schedule almost feels cruel.

After an exciting weekend of Amtrak cancelling both trains, I spent the ride home building a website to track their train schedules

Eventually I want to add better late arrival time estimates, but for the MVP I settled for looking a lot prettier than the official one

Carbon monoxide is kind of scary

Both fire+carbon monoxide alarms went off in my apartment tonight and scared me out of bed (it was early but I was super tired)

Apartment mgmt wasn’t sure what to do so they just took them both out.

Since I don’t know what caused them to go off, I was kind of nervous staying in the apt sooo

Making my Amtrak app prettier on the rescheduled-rescheduled train ride home today 🙃 Shockingly close to on time so far.

Tomorrow’s train was also just canceled 🥹

This is how far I got on the train. Hoping to finish some sort of MVP on the return trip on Sunday.

On the train ride today, I started building a new website to track Amtrak train schedules. My goals are:

1: Better UI/UX than Amtrak
2: Provide more realistic estimates for trains that have fallen behind schedule
