if you like a bit of language nerding, then may I suggest super geek Simon Roper on Youtube? also Gideon on Let Them Talk Tv, who, like me was an EFL teacher.

29.08.2025 01:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yep, except torquere is the infinitive of the Latin verb. The meaning of the root is certainly to twist or turn, but that ending is a functional/grammatical one, not connected with meaning as such. Like "Reliquere"...from which relic/relict/relinquish, etc
29.08.2025 01:19 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Germanic, I think
29.08.2025 01:14 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0yep-tho more directly & lately from a Germanic word, I think. "quer" in modern German. Words for turning/ twisting, inc "torc" seem to derive from words related to mod Welsh "troia", hence Troytowns..nowt to do with Greece..prob via Brythonic & Anglo Norman French. "Trendle" in Old/ Middle Eng.
29.08.2025 01:13 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Thanks. Makes sense. Otherwise why build massive eworks with a whopping, permanently accessible entrance....
26.08.2025 17:52 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0oh dear...
26.08.2025 17:51 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Do "we" have much recorded evidence for entrance types/morpholgy are they mostly likely to have been wooden constructions-which makes sense?
23.08.2025 13:21 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Oh no! Stay safe. Hope you get through unscathed.
23.08.2025 13:17 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0not really the point
22.08.2025 21:31 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0a seriously worrying guy
22.08.2025 02:33 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0do they still exist, though?
22.08.2025 02:29 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I am quite relaxed now-listening to Free at the Isle of Wight. Have a great eventide
22.08.2025 02:10 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0and no unpleasant bending-as Viv Stanshall once said
22.08.2025 02:08 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0you want context at this time of night? Ok, fair enough...
22.08.2025 02:06 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Sedimentary, Watson!
22.08.2025 02:05 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Just wld like to put a word in for Free & Thin Lizzy, for no reason whatsoever-except they are often ignored.
22.08.2025 01:53 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Not "classic rock"
22.08.2025 01:51 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0there was a lot of great music in the 80s & 90s..but it wasn`t "classic rock"..tho some of it was "rock"
22.08.2025 01:50 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0def not rock!
22.08.2025 01:49 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The Sex Pistols were a boy band, btw. Ask Malcolm McLaren-oh, hang on..
22.08.2025 01:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0er..nothing to do with "elites". what is with this obsession with "elites" FFS.
22.08.2025 01:48 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0yeah, but not the point
22.08.2025 01:46 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0mmmm
22.08.2025 01:46 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Bowie 70s. Queen 70s. also Tears for Fears. Depeche Mode, The Pet Shop Boys certainly ain`t rock. Neither are Madness, who are great. you are not understanding "classic rock". Stone Roses, INXS, nor RHCP neither.
22.08.2025 01:45 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0yeah-but that`s not "classic rock"
22.08.2025 01:41 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yes-& some really great stuff-it was just different from the 60s & 70s
22.08.2025 01:40 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yep...ppl always used to "fly" to Egypt or Greece for "answers". Now it`s all Wales. Much as I love Wales. I am guessing u cld trap animals in pits, etc, & breed/domesticate from their young, maybe. Ppl used elephants, etc so maybe. Not my area of experience.
21.08.2025 16:56 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yes-rather loose..esp re Wales, but the general point abt domesticating/using draught animals doesn`t seem far-fetched to me. Humans have long done that, & it makes practical sense. Yokes etc wld be far more efficient than loads of ppl pulling on ropes. Esp if u built a track. Which breeds is the Q.
