And to be clear, I'm not a fount of knowledge. I speak from ignorant experience. I've only ever changed my mind on things when I'm sat by myself, when I feel unjudged and safe to reflect.

So. When it isn't life and death, I say my piece, put my argument forward and let them roll their eyes and walk away. Sometimes those arguments will stick, sometimes they won't, but I'm not disheartened if there is no 'eureka' moment.

It's still worth countering, it's still worth standing up for what is right, and fair, and true. But don't expect to see a change happen in front of you.

Just a reminder that pretty much nobody changes their mind in the heat of a debate or under intense scrutiny. People go away, mull over things and slowly change lanes like they're sailing an oil tanker!

Don't ever expect to win someone over in the moment with facts and logic.

My improv teacher has been getting us to do 'object work' where you mime or imagine using an object. Every time she demos one for us, she is then stuck with the imaginary object and has to put it down! So there is a chair covered in invisible teacups, and tennis rackets!! 😅
