The university can’t be neutral. The university has never been a neutral place. Let’s pop that balloon right away. Refuse that bad fiction of the western university. It has been the site for the production of tremendous harm through “knowledge”.

Kids are people, man.

While it’s important for the law to protect them in developmentally appropriate ways, it’s absolutely essential that the law recognizes the agency and autonomy of minors.

96 pages and 6 footnotes later, comps are done. I will celebrate by……writing a lecture for class tomorrow and trying to forget about how bad those 96 pages are.

Dorothy Roberts Lays Out a Damning Exposé of Medical Racism and “Child Welfare” Scholar Dorothy Roberts exposes effects of anti-Black mythmaking and calls for an end to the family policing system.

'Hope is something we have to practice...
Abolition is a horizon that we must continually struggle toward because we can’t accept the current suffering perpetrated by the carceral state ... because we are committed to hoping for a more caring and humane world.'

I can’t even express how appreciative I am for my co-authors, reviewers, and the thinkers whose work inspired this piece. Getting to think with all of them/you has been one of the greatest pleasures of my grad school experience so far.

I’m really excited for the work this paper points us toward.

So amped for this publication!!

I’m so grateful to Melanie (who I don’t think is here yet?) for bringing us all together.

This paper feels risky, and necessary. It hopes to answer the question of whether — and if so, how — SW education can respond to anti-CRT and anti-trans legislation.
