The inclusion of a specific children and young people’s section is a huge milestone, with long-awaited recognition that cancer in children and young people is different and needs a different strategy and approach.

Great evening celebrating the upcoming launch of the National Cancer Plan with colleagues from across the cancer sector. Looking forward to the publication of the Plan on World Cancer Day this Wednesday.

Greetings from rainy Amsterdam and #SIOPCongress. Some great talks already today and looking forward to four days of networking, developments in treatment and care, and a global perspective on children and young people’s cancer

Half way between Belfast and Dublin and an excellent first day at the inaugural All-Island Paediatric Oncology Conference, exploring how closer collaboration and an all-island network could improve care for children and young people with cancer (and talking how @cclguk.bsky.social can help!)

Non-commercial clinical research (which includes charity-funded research) - as well as addressing patient priorities and developing new treatments and cures - has a huge benefit to the UK economy.

Around 1 in 500 children in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer by age 14. This #CCAM, we’re highlighting #ChildCancerSmart, sharing information about how diagnoses are made and what support is available for families 🎗️

It follows several years of research, including a population-based observational study and a lot of systematic reviews, to ensure we have, for the first time, a sound evidence base and a good understanding of the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer and the pathways to diagnosis.
