Homelessness is not inevitable.
It is preventable. We just need the right support is in place, at the right time, for the right people.

But this is only the beginning.
We still need action on the root causes of homelessness β poverty, lack of affordable housing, domestic abuse, and trauma.
Thatβs why we welcome the Welsh Governmentβs draft Homelessness and Social Housing Allocation Bill, focusing on early intervention.

Its repeal, confirmed earlier this year and due to take full effect by spring 2026, marks a shift in how society views homelessness.
For too long, the Act sent a harmful message that poverty is a crime, and that people without a home belong in handcuffs instead of housing. That message ends now.

For those who have endured gender-based abuse or violence, generic temporary accommodation isnβt always the answer.
Gender-specific housing options for women need to include:
π Safe, women-only environments
π Support for independence
π 24/7 staffed housing, self-contained units & flats
26.08.2025 11:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Generic housing often fails to meet the needs of women who have experienced gender-based violence or abuse. Not all women experiencing challenges can access traditional domestic abuse refuges π
