Thanks, amazing analysis. Wasn't just thinking of left abstainers, but 2-4 mostly applies to the both-sides crew as well. In particular I find #2 most compelling. With media being able to micro-target and mirror a persons specific mindset, they lose site of a compromise/consensus solution.

This was eye opening to me. Wondering how this applies to the many non-voters who say they hate Trump but stayed home this election. Perhaps the similar lack of collectivism? Perhaps a misguided desire to to feel superior to others, morally?
