I'm back home from my 2 week trip in Wales and Ireland. Working on getting the first issue of Plott Hound together to be published this month/before June.

Contract signed! Happy to announce that my flash story "A Pale Herd, a Worm Moon" 🌕 will be part of the first issue of @plotthoundmag.bsky.social!

Today I had my 1st "I want to publish this story!!" experience. I can see now why editors enjoy what they do. It's a thrill to find a story that has you fired up and raring to be the one unleashing it into the wild.

The secret to getting far in the submission process for Plott Hound is really no secret. What we want/don't want, and examples of works aligning with the mag's vision, are spelled out in the guidelines. Please read them. I really appreciate those who've shown in their subs that they have.

Yesterday I started burying my nose into the Plott Hound submissions passed up to me by the 1st readers. Manuscripts are piled on my desk, my pen is flying. Make no mistake: I may be new at editing but I will be ruthless and I am picky about what I want for the magazine.

And that's a wrap on Plott Hound's submission period for the inaugural spring issue. We got over 🎉400 entries!🎉 Thank you for submitting!

Prose subs recommended to me by 1st readers will get a hold notice. We appreciate your patience in the next few days and weeks as we wrap up on decisions.

Another round of thanks to everyone who submitted to the very first round of Plott Hound. Rejection does NOT equate to sign of a bad story. Plott Hound has a very particular vision and aesthetic, so magazine fit is a big priority and the submission may not just be the right fit. Keep submitting!

Plott Hound has the cover art/artists for all four 2025 issues, and we're really excited to reveal them when the time comes to publish each issue. There will also be artist interviews! ✨

Halfway through Plott Hound's very first submission period and we are sitting at 200+ entries! The reading pack has been hard at work wading through the slush. I really appreciate their input and diligence to search for great animal stories and poems.

As we head into the weekend, don't forget that Plott Hound Magazine is open through the 15th.

We're especially interested in seeing more unique animals in the slush pile from space-exploring manatees to deep-sea welding marmots.

We're excited to read it all!
