12.01.2026 10:34 — 👍 3 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 13/3 It does make the gap between poor & rich: larger & larger & larger. Which I find the most disturbing underlying issue. And that is why legislation should act too I think. When is a subscription "allowed", is not an easy debate or easy to put into law, but needed to not leave ppl behind :/
12.01.2026 11:24 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 02/3 And if they have enough $$$ coming in when a certain pct of ppl can still pay it, and make it profitable for the company still, even if losing some customers. That makes companies not listen anymore to vocal outrage as it doesn't hurt their sales now.
12.01.2026 11:24 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 01/3 Yeah, I agree, as I replied to Arthur... The sad thing is you'll have to boycott and voice the opinion we don't want this. But the fact is companies won't listen anymore if you don't have $$$.
12.01.2026 11:24 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 03/3 ...discussion on fair or not fair would lead us to capitalism, boundaries, ethics and so on. I agree with you this isn't a healthy direction.
But "pushing back" only helps with a boycott imho and DIY. Shouting at a company doesn't help anymore alas... I noticed, they only listen to $$$.
2/3 My reply was more hinted at @scott.hanselman.com, as he's into the "maker-community", so it was lighthearted, as he could be blogging about it then... He has the skills to show others, as he has done before. So hence why.
Doesn't mean it is right or fair, but that discussion...
1/3 I get that, please don't shout. The subscription model makes me angry as well. But in this world, I learned, either
1. give backlash to the people or companies and boycott their system
2. either give in, and pay
They won't listen to our voices, only to investors & money.
make your own!

Games as literature in motion: stories shaped by participation, ethics shaped by play. Not better than film or a good book, but just a different experience, a different medium.
Not passive art, active meaning when well done.

This is why games feel different.
They don’t just tell stories: they make us inhabit them. Narrative becomes something lived, not read.

Where novels guide interpretation, games test it.
They ask: what will you do when action replaces abstraction? When values stop being hypothetical?

Even games without traditional plots still tell stories through systems. Scarcity, pressure, efficiency, care. Meaning emerges through play, not narration.

Games don’t ask what the right choice is.
They ask who you become after choosing.
That self-reflection is something literature has always done: games just make it unavoidable.

In games, choice isn’t decoration, it’s the text itself.
“No option is innocent.” Consequence becomes something you carry, not just witness. That’s where games turn literary.

Books and films ask us to observe. Games ask us to act.
As I wrote: "games don’t offer distance, they offer responsibility. Understanding isn’t enough when you choose."

I wrote a piece on games, not the usual “games are art” take. I dug deeper into how games function as literature through choice, consequence, and agency.
