Our research is unique, we have shown the world how heart transplants are performed during war and why Ukrainian heart surgery does not stop even in difficult conditions.

Main Feature: Comparison of the results of transplantation of standard and marginal hearts.

Marginal hearts are those that were previously considered unfit: with longer ischemic periods, those that require coronary arteries stenting, valve plastic, or special donor perfusion. We've proven that even such complex organs can save lives ❤️🩹

Described how we transport donor hearts in conditions of war and adapt world protocols to Ukrainian realities.
Thanks to cooperation with the magazine's editor-in-chief Joseph Rogers and Professor Göran Dellgren from Sweden, we managed to show the world Ukrainian expertise 🙌

Currently, we are the only ones in Ukraine who have publications in this magazine. But this is only the beginning, we have opened the way to represent the advances of Ukrainian cardiac surgery on a global level.

Every person waiting for a transplant goes through a difficult journey.
We at the Heart Institute want you to understand how the donor organ distribution system works and why it's built that way.

In Ukraine, donor organs are distributed through the single state information system of transplantation (EDIST).

This system works automatically, excluding the human factor when selecting a recipient.

When a donor organ appears, EDIST analyzes all data and determines who it is best suited, taking into account:

▫️Biological compatibility of fabrics
▫️How urgently the patient needs transplantation
▫️Possibility to deliver the organ to the transplant center in time

The system pays special attention to children, people who were organ donors themselves, and those who have agreed to postmortem donation in advance.

What is important for patients to know in the waiting list 👆
When you find the right body for you, every minute will count.

To this reason:

▫️Keep the phone always close and charged
▫️Answer all calls, even from unknown numbers
▫️Be prepared to quickly come to the Heart Institute

🕒 Time in this situation is the most valuable resource. A quick response can save a life.

Sergiy defended Azovstal, 3,5 years in captivity with a bullet in the heart.

On the third day after the removal of the bullet is already walking in the yard of the Heart Institute. Thank you to all who are supporting the captive guys and releasing them. Congratulations to all colleagues on the Surgeon's Day. Sometimes we work miracles.

talks about the danger that we often
underestimate

It seems like we don't sleep everyone: work, family, social networks take our time. But even minus 2 hours of sleep seriously increases the risk of hypertension, arrhythmia and heart attack.

What happens in the body during lack of sleep? High blood pressure, heart rate variability is disturbed. Stress hormones are activated - cortisol and adrenaline, which force the heart to work in enhanced mode.

Increasing inflammation in the vascular wall, which creates the ideal conditions for the development of atherosclerosis.

Insomnia also reduces insulin sensitivity and negatively affects lipid metabolism. It raises levels of "bad" cholesterol and accelerates the formation of atherosclerotic blades.

How to protect your heart:
◻️ Sleep 6,5-8 hours every day
◻️ Turn off the screens for a year before sleep
◻️ Drink coffee only until 14:00
◻️ In case of insomnia, consult a doctor
