What's weird about my take on Newsom? It's a pretty common one in Oakland.

Pritzer seems promising, since I don't see a bunch of Illinois people jumping in to tell us he's bad, unlike Newsom, where I guarantee you that Californians are saying don't vote for him. I don't buy the centrist argument that Dems can't be too bold. Anyone who isn't compromising has a shot.

How Trump's ICE Is Locking Up Longtime Texans with Paths to Legal Status The case of one Houston man, nearly deported to India after a quarter-century here, shows what happens when prosecutorial discretion is abandoned.

โ€œThat facility is, like, terrible, horrible. Thereโ€™s a lot of people in there. A lot. Each room has like 45 capacity. And theyโ€™re putting like 60 people in each room. The restroom is a mess. Dirty. People are sleeping on the floor, people are sleeping in the restroom.โ€

No. The people who actually have something to offer shouldn't troll like that. It's useful because it gets under the grifter's skin, but leave it to someone who enjoys those games. And then don't take him seriously as a presidential candidate.

I think she's staff, not an intern. My point remains the same: he's a lousy governor (better than the Republicans who wanted to recall him, but that's a low bar) and he'd be a terrible president, especially in a time when we're going to need major change. The trolling is all he's good for.

Gavin is good for one thing: trolling trump. Otherwise, he is an example of every reason we don't want to go back to the status quo once we wrest the country back from the fascists. So appreciate what he does well and look for better candidates.

How many times, in how many contexts, in how many ways am I going to have to say that this is what "AI" doesโ€” what it fundamentally *is*โ€” before it sinks in? That all Bullshit engines do is statistically correlate training data & inputs via their weights to produce outputs you are likely to acceptโ€ฆ

How the Democrats Can Play Offense on Immigration Typically, Democrats run for the hills when immigration comes up. But as two blue-state governors are showing, the winning play is actually to confront ICE and MAGA xenophobia head on.

The extraordinary courage of people who are documenting ICE atrocities in places like Minneapolis, at great personal risk, are also achieving something else: They're changing the public's mind about immigration. We have a rare opportunity here. 1/

Yes, it does. And while I don't get to mine every morning, I have learned to do it reasonably often because it works. Also, I will tell you that about 25 years ago, when the knee formerly known as good stopped being good, PT was nowhere near as useful as it is now, so I am so grateful.

Yep. The "AI" isn't conscious and won't be. What they're calling AI is software that might be useful for some things once they get the bugs out, though not writing. And it's not useful enough to support all the investment, thus the hype.

DID YOU KNOW

that if an AFAB person (including teen) goes on Accutane for acne, they must join a federal program called iPLEDGE (because the meds are "potentially harmful to fetuses")

wherein they must get bloodwork & a pregnancy test

each month

& fill out forms re: what birth control they're on

It appears that in planning for Operation Metro Surge, the government failed to
plan for the constitutional rights of its civil detainees. The government suggests โ€” with minimal explanation and even less evidence โ€” that doing so would result in "chaos." The Constitution does not permit the government to arrest thousands of individuals and then disregard their constitutional rights because it would be too challenging to honor those rights. 14
At this preliminary stage, Plaintiffs have made a clear showing of likelihood of
success on their Fifth Amendment claim.

There is No Scientific Justification to Revoke the Endangerment Finding The U.S. EPA's decision to repeal the Endangerment Finding will limit the government's ability to regulate emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act.

As I say here, there is no scientific justification to revoke the engagement finding. In fact, over the last 15+ yrs, the evidence of how climate change affects our health has only grown. Higher risk of allergies, dementia, fertility, heart disease, and death: thatโ€™s whatโ€™s on the line. @nature.org
