Had a super lovely day today teaching students from the @aalto.fi summer school! Got to share some of Helsinki’s history in a classroom before taking them around UNESCO world heritage site #Suomenlinna ❤️

Hyvää säätiöpäivää! ✨

Säätiöt ja rahastot tukevat merkittävästi Turun yliopiston toimintaa – viime vuonna yli 24 miljoonalla eurolla.

Lämmin kiitos säätiöille tuestanne! Sen avulla me yliopistossa voimme rakentaa kestävää tulevaisuutta meille kaikille! 💜

Tänään on #säätiöpäivä! Kiitos Svenska litteratursällskapet i Finland säätiönne tuestanne väitöskirjatutkimustani kohtaan Junossa @utu.fi . Honestly, the tailors who outfitted Astaire, Kelly etc. were absolute magicians. The appreciation for movement, immaculate fit, wonderful proportions and the right cut for each figure is just stunning! #tailoring #suits #dancing

Feeling exhausted about work, life and the world in general. As an antidote I'm going through some of my research photographs & thought I'd share this #18thCentury beauty with you, enjoy the #embroidery and the worn out but wonderful #silk fabric ❤️👗🪡

I just found out about this stunning sounding #exhibition opening soon in #Tokyo! As luck would have it, the stars have aligned and I'll be in Tokyo while it's on 😍 mimt.jp/ex/artdeco20... !!

Having a hellish time getting an article submission through a portal system for a specific publisher. The joys of #academia truly cannot be measured.

The whole thread is full of #wallpaper gorgeousness, but I love the bottom left and right combo of small florals and geometric shapes! Really wish I could paper a feature wall in my office with one <3 #Vintage #DreamHouse

I always appreciate a good 16th century #map and lovely reading rooms! The Carta Marina by Olaus Magnus is rather a regional favourite here, being the earliest (somewhat) detailed map of #Finland with fab sea monsters included 😁 These wee beasties are just off the coast of Norway!

How did I not know about this 😱 So happy I can join virtually from Finland and as it happens I have plenty of sewing I can do while listening in! Delightful! #Needlework #Conference

Lovely! ❤️👗 also a perfect example of a #museumissue: the mannequin is too tall! Torso is too long & the dress sits SO differently compared to the 50s photo so you get a totally different idea of how the dress should look. So common & can give the wrong impression about #Vintage and #HistoricalDress

Fantastiskt! Here's a pretty aerial image of the park for you. The outline of the #18thCentury manor house is also still visible in the park. The second photo is Rosavilla, the only surviving building from Tersmeden's time. Moved to a new location in the 80s, it's now the restaurant of a golf club!

Fascinatingly, von Troil's wife's uncle was Captain Carl Tersmeden who once owned the Alberga manor in Espoo, Finland. The original house is long gone, but it was in the area where I grew up! The #18thCentury garden has been partially restored and is now a little public park ☺️

Got to go to lovely Louhisaari Manor yesterday to help train museum guides. Gave a lecture & dressing up demonstration of Empire-era fashion (roughly 1790-1820). How wonderful it as to educate and inspire people about a topic I love so much! Wore my lovely hand-stitched white cotton dress ❤️

For someone who is always, and I mean ALWAYS, wistful for York and it’s historical streets @yorkadventurers.bsky.social has quickly become my favourite account here. Huzzah for the maps and tours!

We are looking at an ornate frontispiece to a book. It has a drawing of York from a distance with houses, churches and York Minster. The text explains that Thomas Gent was the printer and was 65 in 1757.

We are looking at a plan or map of York. The rivers can be clearly seen as can The Castle or Clifford’s Tower as we would know it.

Ugh, I feel you! Finland is determined to not let me wear my spring outfits... We had hailstones and vague attempts at snow on Sunday and it was below freezing this morning 😣

Allow me to introduce you to some more timeline cleansing gorgeousness! This beauty also dates from the #18thCentury and was very likely a #QuiltedPetticoat before it was turned into a bedspread. The details shows the fabulous embroidered border, which would've gone all the way around the hem.

I'm very lucky to have been able to study several lovely 18th century quilted petticoats here in Finland. They always brighten up my day!

This yellow #18thCentury ensemble from the @skmuseo.bsky.social features a delightful #QuiltedPetticoat and was reportedly worn by a newly married woman. It seems fitting to post on a sunny spring day:

Submitted the 1st draft of my #PhD summary earlier this month & had my feedback chat with supervisors yesterday. I don't suck! I'm doing well! What I wrote was excellent for a 1st draft! Am quite chuffed ☺️ I will finish this bloody PhD eventually. Enjoy this #18thCentury embroidery in celebration!

I’m making a half-scale mock up of a similar garment here in Finland! I’d be really interested in trading thoughts about this if you have the time 😊
